I Think I’ll Procrastinate Tomorrow

By Jaycie Cash

Writer's blockSome people like golf.

Others enjoy tennis.

We all know folks who indulge in retail therapy on an almost daily basis.

Personally, I’m into competitive procrastination.

There is very little I get around to when I first plan to do it, in my personal life, anyway.  Luckily, I’m much more timely when it comes to professional matters.  After all, writers are always up against deadlines. I typically respond well to my own . . . as long as I remember I have one.

As the lovely Susan here at Writerspace can attest, I have had more than one brain fart regarding my weekly Writerspace blog. Yet she has always been most gracious about guiding me back to the light, and the need for me to send my blog post haste.

Susan’s the absolute best!

And, in the interest of full disclosure, perhaps I should explain that while I do meet those professional deadlines I remember that I have, I seldom if ever beat them.

Take my Writerspace blog for example, once again. For reasons alluded to above, I’ve been asked to have it in prior to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday mornings. As a result, I typically email it around midnight on Monday.

This week is proving to be no exception. Actually, I’m a bit ahead of schedule.

It’s only 11:38 p.m.

Since I usually have at least a little spare time on Sundays, one would assume I’d write it then, right?

Ha! One would be wrong.

Those of us who pride ourselves on our procrastinating abilities know the importance of keeping our avoidance muscles well exercised. Oh, if only putting things off was an Olympic sport!

If that had been the case in my youth, I think we can all agree I could’ve been a contender!!

HOW ABOUT YOU, DO YOU TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS IN A TIMELY FASHION OR ARE YOU A PROCRASTINATOR LIKE ME? DO YOU HAVE A PROCRASTINATOR IN YOUR LIFE THAT DRIVES YOU CRAZY? A FREE COPY OF MY DEBUT NOVEL, MRS. GOODFELLER WILL BE RANDOMLY AWARDED TO ONE PERSON WHO LEAVES A COMMENT BELOW BEFORE THE NEXT WRITERSPACE BLOG IS POSTED.

Personally, I’m not a procrastinator. Call me boring that way. If I have something to do or somewhere to be, I try to do it or be there on time. My husband though, he’s a procrastinator when it comes to school work. I can’t blame him since he works full time and is just 3 classes short of his masters. He will do the whole wait till last minute to turn in assignments. His excuse, he wants to spend time with family before doing work. It’s a good excuse tjough, wouldn’t you say? ☺

The most important tasks (i.e., those carrying the greatest consequences when not completed in a timely manner) are the ones I do well ahead of time. I always meet the income tax filing deadline. My car registration renewal payment is always submitted by the due date. All of my bills are paid on time (thank you, automatic bill payment service). My home is fully stocked with toilet paper and pasta sauce. But I can ignore some chores for days, weeks, months … even years. For example, I have 8 banker boxes of stuff I took with me when I moved offices at work. I haven’t looked inside those for nearly two years.

Women in Sacred Dream History

While most scriptural accounts were recorded by men within the historical setting of their time and cultures for an audience of other men, much can be learned about the true nature of  the historical-cultural mindset about gender in relation to the art of sacred dreaming, by evaluating what these sacred texts say about women as… Read More
