When I wrote The Protectors Series (Dangerous Pursuit, Dangerous Interlude and Dangerous Paradise), I wanted to showcase places I had been to in a story. I love traveling and using tidbits I’ve learned in my travels.
In Dangerous Pursuit, my husband and I visited several different jungles so I could experience what it felt like to be in one. Is it possible for a place to be over 100% humidity? A jungle certainly feels like that. I wasn’t in a minute when I began to sweat. The air-conditioned hotel room was heavenly when I got back to the hotel. I didn’t want to leave. The clothes I wore were so mud-splattered that I had to throw them away because I couldn’t get the stains out. And I didn’t even mention I hate snakes. Everywhere I stepped I kept an eye out for one. I shiver even thinking about it today. So it became easy for me to write Samantha being thrust in that alien environment.
In Dangerous Interlude, I visited Austria (Salzburg) with a friend. What happened to Anna at the beginning of her trip to Austria happened to me (not the kidnapping I’m pleased to announce) but the encounter at the casino on top of the mountain. I loved that trip and Salzburg. I would recommend anyone go to the town. I had fun envisioning a romantic suspense in that setting.
In Dangerous Paradise, my husband and I went to Oahu, Hawaii and I was able to spend some time with a friend who was part Hawaiian and part Swedish and her large family. The scene at the Fourth of July picnic was similar to what my husband and I did with my friend. What I loved was it was for the locals more than tourist.
The scene in Dangerous Paradise on the beach on the Fourth of July was where we went to swim several times. It was around the corner from where we stayed. It was amazing to think only six months later in the winter, surfers would be riding in huge waves and the beach where I was would be underwater. I’ve seen pictures of it on television and it isn’t the same place in the winter months.
Where have you gone that has been special to you or an experience you’d like seen written in a book?
This week Dangerous Pursuit, the first book in the series, is on sell everywhere for 99 cents.
