Can't Get You Out Of My Mind
by Shirley Larson

She could see into his mind. Too bad he couldn’t see into her heart.

SAMANTHA BLACK loved TATE KINCAID from the time she was five years old. He thinks she is his best buddy. In high school, he dates the prom queen. When he ends up in the hospital with a broken leg he gets from a tangle with a bucking bronco, his prom queen won’t go see him. Samantha ends up at his bedside, reading to Tate, laughing with him, helping him stand the pain.

He grows up, she grows up. Tate attends Annapolis and marries his prom queen to walk out with her under crossed sabers. Samantha goes to college to earn her teaching degree. Tate joins the Navy to see the world. Samantha shakes the South Dakota dust from her shoes and moves to a city in New York State to teach middle school English and share an apartment with her best friend, Elaine Kincaid and her toddler son. Elaine and Samantha have a great time, living in the city and taking Josh out to see the big world he lives in, watching him grow. Then one snowy night, Elaine is killed, leaving Samantha to raise Elaine's twelve-going-on thirty year old son.

Josh’s grandparents, Tate’s parents, want to see their grandson. Tate is newly divorced and has left the Navy to live on the home ranch. This means a trip back to South Dakota that is sure to open old wounds in Samantha’s heart. For Josh’s sake, Samantha decides she can take it. She’ll be friendly to Tate, but cool and impersonal. That is her plan. Until the first time she sees Tate shirtless in the horse stable. All those beautiful abs, all those muscles. What’s a woman to do? Her old passion comes bubbling up and stirs a generous portion of hormones in Tate’s body as well. But reason asserts itself. There is Josh to consider. Can the three of them find happiness and build a family together?

It seems to all rest on the presence of one green snake.

Shirley Larson's Bio

Shirley Larson always wanted to be a writer. Even while she was studying music in college, she took a creative writing course…and was promptly laughed at and told she wasn’t a writer. Much later, on her husband’s urging, she quit her dead end job and sat in her college son’s empty room in front of a keyboard and wondered if she was crazy. Now, some thirty romances later, three of them historical romances, she has learned the joy…and sometimes the agony…of writing. She encourages anyone thinking of writing not to listen to naysayers. She has met many wonderful editors and readers along the way who have been very encouraging. She loves the thought that she is sharing with her readers her stories of the men and women who find their way through adversity toward a love for all time.
