Because of a faulty hyperphase gate created by the Chinese, part of early-twenty-first-century Pittsburgh is taken through an interdimensional gate into Elfland and returns to Earth monthly for one day.

18-year-old tech genius Tinker runs a salvage yard in the city. She saves Windwolf, the elven governor of North America on Elfhome and thereafter finds herself entangled in a magnificent web of romance; plots involving humans, elves, and oni (Japanese demons); and a race to build another gate by means of which the oni can conquer both Earth and Elfland.

The 2003 John Campbell Award Winner, Wen Spencer spent twenty years living in Pittsburgh, so its only natural that she sets her stories there. Currently she's living outside of Boston with her husband and son. She's a fan of Japanese anime and manga, and it flavors her writing. TINKER won the 2003 Sapphire Award and was nominated for the Romantic Times Review Choice Award for Best Fantasy.
