At eighteen, Aurora Browne had already birthed three children for three different families on behalf of the Candidacy program. The Candidacy serves to assist wealthy women produce children, in a cold desolate world where few can produce healthy children on their own.

With her latest assignment for the Williamses, Browne learnes of another world outside of the Candidacy's stone walls of confinement and enslavement from Bain, the Willaimses' butler. It is a world free of labels, where people like them can be free.

Browne soon realizes that she's in love with Bain. Love is a forbidden act for Candidates. THeir bodies belong solely to the Candidacy. It is partially for this love that Browne contemplates escape. The last attempt almost cost her life. Browne has the scars to prove it.

Nicole Givens Kurtz's Bio

Nicole Givens Kurtz was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is the publisher of Mocha Memoirs Ezine of Short Fiction & Poetry and the author of: The Soul Cages, Browne Candidate, and A Complete Woman.

She is also an Instructor at the University of New Mexico. Her short stories have appeared in such noted publications as Anotherealm, Jackhammer Ezine, Dragon Soup and Orpheus Romance. In addition to fiction, her nonfiction articles have appeared in AFRIQUE Newsmagazine as well as Elanmag, Electronic Magazine for Women of Color. Nicole graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor's of Art, concentration Writing.

She is pursuing Master Degrees from Western New Mexico University, LaCrosse University, and Bread Loaf School of English. Nicole now lives in Gallup, New Mexico with her husband, gecko and cat, Bonkers.
