ANYTHING YOU CAN DO...
Darlene Gardner

If you get cozy with the competition, you might as well sit down in a barca lounger.

Lane Brooks's football-coach father wasn't talking about Clay Crawford when he coined the saying, but no way is Lane going to let Clay convince her that they can be lovers as well as competitors.

Never mind the romantic, sexy night they shared before Lane realized Clay was her counterpart on a competing newspaper. Giving in to her attraction would surely kill her competitive edge.

The competition gets hotter when Lane and Clay find themselves not only vying for the same magazine job during a weekend on the cat-show circuit but staying in adjoining hotel rooms.

The investigative reporter who turns in a story exposing cat-show corruption will win the job, but can Clay convince Lane that there are more important things in life than getting the story?

Darlene Gardner's Bio

Darlene Gardner worked as a sportswriter for years before realizing she'd rather make up quotes than hope some athlete would say something interesting.

After writing books about festering small-town secrets and babies switched at birth, she had another realization: Writing romantic comedy would be a whole lot more fun. She's been concentrating on the lighter side of love ever since.

Darlene graduated from Penn State, grew up in the Pittsburgh area and worked for daily newspapers in Charleston (S.C.) and Fort Lauderdale. She now writes fiction full time and lives in Northern Virginia with her journalist husband and two children.
