Why Romance is Even More Relevant this Year…

Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by today. I’m Victoria James, romance author of sweet, small-town contemporary romances. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas if I don’t read-or write-a holiday book. They are hands down my favorite to read and write.

This has been quite a year for everyone. And I know, more than ever, this year I’ve leaned heavily on things that bring joy. Even though this holiday season will look a different this year, it also makes it even more important to celebrate the little things: hot chocolate, decorating the house, baking, watching movies, spending time with family…and of course, escaping with a good book. But not just any book-a book with a happily ever after. Right now, we could all use a happily ever after even more than ever.

In, Snowed in with the Firefighter, both main characters are trying to escape wounds. For the hero, he’s dealing with physical and emotional wounds and is recovering at his brother and sister-in-law’s cabin in the middle of nowhere, Montana. There’s snow and Christmas cheer-the exact opposite of what these two grumpy characters want!

The heroine is running away from the holidays and work after a traumatic incident at work, along with old wounds that make her want to hide from the holidays. She doesn’t count on having to share the cabin with her sexy brother-in-law, especially since she never got over her crush-or the fact that he’d said no when she’d asked him to prom when they were teenagers. But Melanie will never let on…until they are stuck together for a couple weeks and she finds herself falling for Finn all over again.

Opposites attract and Finn can’t deny that he’s attracted to Melanie. Even though they devise a scheme to get revenge on their nosy, matchmaking family, the last laugh is on the two of them because they do fall for each other. With lots of holiday decorating, snowman-building, Christmas tree buying, these two stubborn characters end up slowly opening up to each other. Amidst the backdrop of the holiday season, they find healing and hope.

I think this holiday season I will be reading as many happily ever after romances as I can find the time for. And watching Hallmark movies will be a must. I also think it will make so many of us appreciate the holiday season even more. I hope this season brings you much joy and good health and time with friends and family.

I always knew I wanted to be a writer and in grade five, I penned my first story, bound it (with staples) and a cardboard cover and did all the illustrations myself (if you’ve ever seen my drawings you’ll know how horrible they must have been. I still draw stick figures). Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again. In high school I fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance. After graduating University with an English Literature degree, I married my own hero, pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened my own business. After the birth of our first child, I knew it was time to fulfill the dream of writing romantic fiction. I’m a hopeless romantic who is living my dream, penning happily-ever-after’s for my characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but I’m quite content living in suburbia with my husband, our two young children, and very bad cat. I’d love to hear from you! Always feel free to connect with me via email, Twitter, or Facebook.
