What’s been on my bookshelf recently by Traci Douglass

Finding out what people read always fascinates me and tells me a lot about who they are. So, today, I thought I’d share with you what’s been on my bookshelf recently.

Top 5 books I’ve recently read:

  1. All Souls Trilogy by Debra Harkness.

Yes, I realize I’m a bit behind on this series and I can’t really say why it took me so long to read them, but man, once I started I couldn’t stop. Witches, vampires, daemons and a fantastic time-traveling plot. What’s not to love about that? While there were a few places that snagged me up a bit, mainly because of writing style, overall, I was completely captivated. I loved learning about Matthew and his ancient vampire family and also all about Diana Bishop and her witch heritage and powers. I just finished the final book in the series, The Book of Life, a few days ago and now have a serious book hangover. I haven’t checked out the TV series yet and am a bit hesitant to do so. Books are usually so much better, IMO, and I don’t know. Maybe one day I’ll watch… We’ll see.

  1. Gilded Cage by KJ Charles

KJ Charles is an auto-buy author for me. If you love intricately plotted stories rich with well-researched historical detail and plenty of sexy LGBTQA+ heat, you need to pick up one of KJs books. Seriously, one of the best writers out there. If you like a touch of paranormal in your plots, start with the Magpie Lord series, or the Green Man series, or The Casebook of Simon Feximal. If you prefer historical mystery with romance, then try her Sins of the City series or the wonderful Society of Gentleman series. Seriously, you can’t go wrong. Warning though: once you start you won’t be able to stop. Highly addictive, in the best possible way!

  1. A Delicate Deception by Cat Sebastian

Reading historical romance is one of my stress relievers. As an author, it’s hard for me to read within my own genre of contemporary romance for pleasure since I immediately switch into critical reading mode instead of just letting the story sweep me away, with a few exceptions, of course. When I just want to settle in with a good book, Cat’s stories never fail to deliver. With great characters, well-developed plots, and plenty of historical detail, they will always make my list of must-reads. Her Turner series remains one of my all-time favorites.

  1. The Gift of Imperfection by Brene Brown

I always like to balance my fiction reading with a bit of non-fiction or self-help and Brene Brown is one of my faves. I love her no-nonsense approach to life and her years of research into shame and vulnerability never fail to call me on my crap and force me to approach things from a different perspective. Also, if you’ve not seen her Netflix special or listened to her TED talk, you really should.

  1. Fog City Trilogy by Layla Reyne

Another auto-buy author for me. Are you noticing a pattern yet? LOL. Historical romance and M/M romance are my read-for-pleasure go-to’s. Layla Reyne writes amazing romantic suspense filled with action and adrenaline and her Fog City trilogy is another amazing series in that genre. With lots of intrigue and family angst, it keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to discover how the heroes will resolve the ever-growing danger and still find their happily ever after. Plus, scorching hot sexy times too. What’s not to love? After the Fog City trilogy, definitely check out her Irish and Whiskey series, followed by the Trouble Brewing series. So much good stuff!

  1. Bedknobs and Broomsticks series by Josh Lanyon

I would read the phone book if Josh Lanyon wrote it. Honest. There’s not a book I’ve read by this fantastically talented mystery and suspense author that I haven’t loved and this new paranormal mystery M/M romance series is no exception. Such great characters, such great mysteries to solve. Such wonderful romance that has you rooting for these men on every step of their journey to love and forever. Highly recommended! The first two books in the series are out now and the third is due out later in 2020. Do yourself a favor and start them today.
