Who Wants to Live Forever?

night-child-by-lisa-kesslerHi everyone –

I’m excited to be on the blog today!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live forever?  I think my fascination with immortals started with Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, carried into the Highlander movies and tv series, and finally culminated for me with my Night series.

I’m intrigued to understand how a person (or being) can keep their lives relevant when the world around them is constantly changing, and they’re not. Anne Rice’s Lestat searched for pleasure and entertainment, but eventually found himself aching for meaning and redemption. In the Highlander television series, Duncan MacLeod, engrossed himself in learning languages and fighting styles while continuing on his “There can be only one” path in The Game.

In my latest novel, NIGHT CHILD, my hero, Issa, has been protecting the mortal world for thousands of years. Being the Mayan God of the West, he’s weary after losing everyone he’s ever cared for. He’s ready to leave the world and rest, but his loyalty to his immortal brothers and protecting this world keep him persevering each night.

I’m happy to report our free-spirited heroine lures him back into our world and helps him to discover there is more to him and his identity than his title and position. It was a joy to see him evolve and participate in the world again.

As I wrote the books for the series, each Night Walker hero has his own reason for facing eternity. For some it’s love, for others it’s duty, and for some it’s a quest for answers, but the burden of endless night weighs heavy on their shoulders.

Lisa KesslerOn the surface, immortality, life without the fear of death seems like a great idea, but I think it comes with a hefty price.

So if you got the chance to live forever, would you take it?  If yes, what would keep you going as lifetimes pass by?  And if not, why would you rather remain mortal with only one life to live?

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts…  One commenter will win their choice of an eBook copy of any of my books!

NIGHT CHILD

A psychic gift…

Muriah La Deaux’s latest job requires her to locate an ancient codex detailing a prophecy of an immortal birth. But before she can deliver it, her client is brutally murdered. Now a man with chaos in his eyes wants the codex she’s hiding.

An immortal child…

Issa is one of the original Night Walkers, a proud protector of the mortal world. Now, when the survival of his entire race rests on protecting an unborn child, Issa is the only immortal strong enough to protect Muriah on a risky mission—locate the lost scrolls that will trap their foe—but his tenuous grasp on his sanity is slipping.

The ultimate sacrifice…

Muriah’s headstrong spirit awakens feelings in Issa that are best left buried. But as the battle between love and chaos ensues, sacrifices must be made.

First am reading Night Child right now. :Love it.

If I had the chance to be immortal and live forever would I? Yes indeed

What would keep you going as lifetimes pass by? Reading my favorite authors books, traveling, learning new languages, having a few places I could live in different places when I felt I needed to move. Seeing what would become of the world and eventually finding that one special person that I would want to spend eternity with.

    1. Oh I’m so glad you’re enjoying Night Child so far! Thanks for grabbing a copy! 🙂

Having an immortal partner would definitely make being immortal awesome! 🙂

If I had to live forever I would hope id at least be able to change into a animal like the Night Walkers can. Id hope to be a bird of some kind so I can fly anywhere I want & see the world! Oh, and Lisa…UR AWESOME! 🙂

    1. Awww thanks Sara! 🙂

And shifting into an animal would be a blast wouldn’t it??? I’m afraid of heights, so a bird might be scary, but as long as it didn’t hurt to shift, I think I’d like being a wolf or a jaguar…

      Lisa 🙂
