A tough nut to crack

Stealing His HeartHello! I’m Diane Alberts (but I also write as Jen McLaughlin), and I am so happy to be here today! I have a new book out with Entangled Publishing (Entangled Brazen), and it’s the second book in my Shillings Agency series. The first book was TEMPORARILY YOURS, which I also blogged about a few months ago! I’m thrilled to be here, and talking about the second book in the series (which is loosely tied with FALLING FOR THE GROOMSMAN, which came out in June).

The second I started writing this book, I knew my hero would be a tough nut to crack. You see, he was once a thief. His parents died when he was an older teen, and he was put into a foster home where he was abused. He ended up running away most of the time, living on the streets, and he befriended a girl who took up thieving with him.

For him, it was a necessity. For her, it was a thrill. When they got arrested, he decided to clean up his act. He left the city, and joined the Marines. After one last night together where they both made promises—him to write, her to stop thieving—they almost make love, but he stops and runs away—it’s kind of his thing.

Temporarily YoursFast forward almost eight years later, and we see our hero injured, suffering from PTSD, and working at The Shillings Agency as a private security guard. Namely, he works with codes and security systems. When some crafty thief gets past his impenetrable code, his boss tracks down the perp. And it’s none other that…you guessed it…

The girl he’d once ran with.

What happens next is a mess of bribery, fighting, betrayal and guilt. I won’t go into too many details—don’t want to spoil the book!—but the problem with my hero, Jake? He’s not the same laughing, happy boy he once was, despite all his trials. He comes across as heartless at first, but then we get into his head, and you see all he’s suffered. All he’s still suffering. And hopefully, you’ll all want to save him as much as my heroine does.

Do you have a favorite type of hero? Mine is the quiet, suffering one. Ones like Jake, from STEALING HIS HEART.

If he’s not careful, she’ll steal his heart too…

A sexy category romance from Entangled publishing’s Brazen imprint…

Shillings Agency employee Jake Forsythe is not happy to discover that the thief who he has to track down is none other than his ex-partner from his past. Now he’s forced to blackmail her into submission…or throw her in jail.

Tara Harris steals from the rich and corrupted, returning objects to their rightful owners one case at a time. When Jake shows up in her life, at first, she’s thrilled. But then when she finds out that she has to help the man she stole from or go to jail…it’s the choice between two evils.

These two can’t deny the burning passion between them, but when push comes to shove, they’ll have to lay their hearts and their lives on the line.
