TOP 5 PLACES TO FIND YOUR MUSE

To be a writer, you’ve got to have a muse. Everyone knows this. It’s the magical and all-powerful MUSE that does the work, inspires you, and makes it all happen.

You know the muse is with you because it starts as a tingling sensation in your lower back. A flare of electricity that then travels up your spine and into your brain, which is suddenly filled with amazing ideas—complete stories just ready to explode on the page. The muse then shoots back down your arms and into your fingers where all ten of those little suckers suddenly begin to type like they’re possessed. And they are.

With the MUSE.

That’s how it works for writers. Easy as can be, right?

Naturally, you don’t want to start writing without your muse. Why would you—such a waste of time. So you wait for your muse to show up.

And wait.

You’re going to get that book down just as soon as it arrives. You know the tingling will start any second now.

And in the meantime….  Well, you don’t want to just sit there, right? There are things you can do. Ways to find your muse! That’s what you’ll do. Hopeful writers have been searching for their muses for years. To help you find yours, I’ve compiled this list for you:

The Top 5 Places to Find Your Muse.

5. FUNNY CAT VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE

You’ll just watch one…or maybe twenty. Because they’re so cute. How can you resist? And before you know it, the morning is gone and it’s time for lunch. You didn’t find your muse, but maybe later.

4. THE FRIDGE

You open the door. Look inside. Stand there awhile. The muse could be in there. Or maybe a snack. A snack would be nice. Hmm…and it’s nice and cool with the door open. Win-win.

3. THE BOOK YOU’RE READING

It’s just getting to a good part after all. If you pop it open and settle on the couch, you might find your muse ready to inspire you. Reading is important for writers. All the articles say so. So this is good. This just might work….

2. BROWSE SOCIAL MEDIA

Maybe your Muse will appear if you pretend to be interested in something else. Way to outsmart it! Pull up Instagram, Facebook, Twitter. You can spend the whole morning outwitting your Muse—the whole day even.

1. THE TV

There are 700+ channels. Your muse must be there somewhere. You’ll scan all of them until you find it. Or, until you find that cooking show you love….

And there you have it! The TOP 5 PLACES to find your muse!

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT SIT YOUR BUTT IN THAT CHAIR, DO NOT OPEN THAT BLANK PAGE.

You will never find your muse there.

That’s where you go and what you do if you want to be a writer.

Writer’s write.

And muses are, in my experience, like unicorns. A really nice idea but not real. They’re about not working. About delaying. So quit searching and find the genius within yourself. It’s been there all the time.

Happy Writing! And thanks to Writerspace for hosting me here!
