The Secrets Nobility Keeps

What would you do to keep your most shameful secret from being exposed to your friends, society, and particularly your family. What if it became an insurmountable problem for you to overcome – especially when you’ll one day inherit a dukedom? That’s the obstacle that Michael Cavensham, the Marquess of McCalpin, must overcome in THE LUCK OF THE BRIDE, my new release in the Cavensham Heiresses series.

Michael suffers from dyscalculia, a learning disability, that makes the simplest math equations gibberish. Folks who suffer from this have difficulty telling time, determining how much time they have between appointments, and making change for example.

Experts in the field say that perhaps from four to six percent of the population have this learning disability. Some believe that this calculation is low because so many of us have “math anxiety” but in actuality suffer from dyscalculia. What causes dyscalculia is still not perfectly understood. Whether it’s an abnormality in the brain, genetics, or even environmental causes have all been put forth as an explanation. Some scientists have even suggested that there’s a correlation between dyscalculia and the amount of gray matter in the parietal lobe or frontal lobe of the brain. In many cases, people who suffer from dyscalculia often had ADHD.

Since my hero is the heir to a powerful dukedom, he must be able to manage the financial and accounting responsibilities of the various properties. Michael is deathly afraid to admit to this disability. Throughout his life he relies on his brother—the only person who knows Michael’s secret—to handle the financial aspects of his estates. When I was writing this story, I asked who would be the perfect heroine for such a hero? How about a sharp-as-a-tack bookkeeper who will do anything to keep her family safe, healthy, and happy? What if she’s an expert in committing fraud and embezzling by forging Michael’s signature on bank account withdrawals? Find out how these two come to trust each other and fall in love. THE LUCK OF THE BRIDE releases May 1, 2018.

Can a woman who’s down on her luck find love with a dashing Duke-to-be? Find out in The Luck of the Bride, the next Regency romance in the Cavensham Heiresses series from Janna MacGregor.

She’s leaving nothing up to chance. Not even love…

March Lawson is an orphan who, for the past eight years, has struggled to raise her siblings on a meager allowance. Most women March’s age would be picking out ball gowns for the upcoming season. But March’s focus is not on finding a husband. First, she must devote her energies to just one man: the coldhearted skinflint who refuses to release her inheritance.

Michael Cavensham, the Marquess of McCalpin, is not a heartless man. When he learns that Miss Lawson has been forging his name to procure funds, he can’t bring himself to have her arrested―not when the bold-faced embezzler is so enchantingly beautiful. Instead, McCalpin agrees to visit her home to assess the situation more closely. March has no choice but to accept. But how can she manage the handsome trustee who controls her purse strings―when he tugs at her heart strings as well?

Following the doctor’s cheerful announcement of triplets, the first thing Janna MacGregor did was pick her darling husband off the floor. The second thing she did was make a decision about what to do with all her newfound free time. Take her word for it, mandatory bed rest can skew one’s perceptions. During her sojourn in bed, Janna remembered her attorney-husband’s sage advice that successful attorneys always have the last word in an argument. Taking these wise words to heart, she became an attorney and soon was managing partner of his law firm. She is certain he and their triplets rue the day he ever made that comment.

After living in a variety of Midwestern cities, she settled in Kansas City Missouri, the crown jewel of the Midwest and home of her favorite team, the Kansas City Royals. Through all her wanderings, she has always found time to read passionate, sweeping romances. It didn’t take long for her to decide to add Author on her resume. Practicing law by day, she writes sexy historicals set in the Regency period whenever she is not in court arguing those last words.

Join her and escape in stories about compelling and powerful heroines meeting and falling in love with their equally matched heroes. Remember—every romance should be messy, carnal and forever.

    1. Hi Sharlene,

I can’t wait for you to start reading it! It’s a heartfelt story of two mismatched but perfectly paired individuals who have to learn to trust one another. The dining room scene with March, McCalpin, and her little brother is one of my favorites.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this one!

      All my best,
      Janna
