Thanks For Allowing Me To Torture You…

deadyforecastIt’s release week, release week, release week!  Whooop!  I loooove release week!  My latest Pyschic Eye Mystery, DEADLY FORECAST, debuts Tuesday, July 2nd and I’m oodley excited about it.  It is the wedding book after all.

For the past ten years I’ve nurtured the relationship between Abby and Dutch and at last their wedding day has arrived!  They’ll exchange vows, and it’ll be all happily-ever-after…unless they don’t survive long enough to make it down the aisle…  The story opens with Abby waking up from an unconscious state strapped to a ticking bomb so it could go either way.

Tick…tick…tick…BOOM!

Bwahahahaha!  Oh, I’m evil, I know.  If you’re a fan and you’re reading this you’re probably all, “Why, Victoria?  Why did you have to strap a bomb to Abby’s chest on the day of her wedding?!!”

Well, because you didn’t become a fan of Abby and Dutch because they’re June and Ward Cleaver, now did you?  You became a fan because I constantly mess with your emotions.  Putting these two in jeopardy is fun for me.  I live for ways to bring them to the brink and, after eleven books, sales are only getting stronger, so I’m thinking that’s a pretty good formula to stick with.

And I’m sorry, (heh, no I’m not), but a wedding is just waaaaay too much of a temptation not to mess with.   So, yeah…I strapped a bomb to Abby’s chest and set the clock at T-minus two hours and I wind that clock down for 370 high-stakes, anxiety-riddled pages.  It’s torture.  It’s unfair.  You’ll twitch and squirm and get mad at me and wonder if I actually have the stones to kill off Abby and/or Dutch, (and trust me, I do), and at the end you will close the book and a few of you will reach out and say kind things and even, perhaps, thank me for keeping you up late into the wee hours as your heart raced and you needed to nurse that anxiety with a heaping bowl of Ben & Jerry’s…and thanking me for doing that to you will only encourage me for next time, so fair warning.  😉

In the meantime, allow me to simply let you know what a pleasure it’s been writing this series for all of you fans.  You’ve allowed me to stretch and grow and have a wonderful time through eleven books and I’ve loved every single minute of it – which was all made possible through your support.  Happy reading my fabulous fans.  May you know how very grateful I am for each and every one of you!

I began writing my first Abby Cooper novel in the winter of 2003. As a professional psychic of many years, I really wanted to portray an intuitive as a normal person ... because we really are normal after all...we’re just a bit more “sensitive” than most.

Truth be told, even after Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye was published, I had no thoughts of becoming a full time professional writer too. Back then I firmly believed that I’d write two or three books in the Psychic Eye series, and move on to some other hobby.

It wasn’t until I was finishing my third book, that I could truly appreciate how much joy I had in telling a story. For me, there is almost nothing more satisfying than writing those final twenty pages of a novel after taking all my characters on something of a roller coaster ride. And I live for those moments when, creatively, it feels like I actually got it right.

I suppose I’d better love what I do, because now there’re three separate books for each of my three series to turn out every year. It is work, but it’s fabulous work if you can get it.

I no longer do psychic readings professionally, but I will admit, being psychic is super cool. :)
