ME AND MY STAYCATION

staycation1I’m on vacation! Actually, I’m on staycation.

And LOVING it.

Chances are good that after four days of spending a lot of time at home the thrill would already be gone if I wasn’t someone who traveled constantly with my work. As a result, there’s something almost unique about padding around my pad in barefeet as I yawn and scratch my uncombed head.

Also, if I was using this time to work on any projects around the house I assure you I wouldn’t be smiling so widely right now. Some folks would, and God bless ‘em. I, however, am not among the DIYers.

So, I’ve given myself permission to not accomplish ANYTHING this week more than sleeping in and—if I could only see it—pondering my belly button.

Although I have to admit, if that was the full extent of my activities even indolent me would get bored pretty quickly. Therefore, I’ve extended my undertakings, which I’m doing my best to keep as inexpensive as possible, to include swimming in the neighborhood pool with a friend or friends (both of whom have taken early retirement, so their time is their own). Luckily, school has already started in these parts, so we have that lovely, peacefully undulating water all to ourselves during the week.

I’m also taking in matinee showings of any movie that strikes my fancy, meeting friends for lunch, putting my Netflix subscription to good use and reading a whole bunch. I’m even getting some writing done and enjoying that process as well.

All in all, I have to say I’m feeling relaxed and pretty blessed. Probably because I am!

WHAT ABOUT YOU, HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR TIME OFF? WOULD YOU ENJOY STAYING AT HOME AS WELL, OR IS TRAVEL MORE TO YOUR TASTE? WHAT DID YOUR ALL-TIME-FAVORITE VACATION CONSIST OF? I enjoy spending my vacation in Yardsville (what you call staycation) just as much as traveling. It’s nice to stay at home and do nothing (except read of course). I do enjoy traveling but haven’t done much in the last several years due to circumstances. My all time best vacation was to Disney World with the family (my inlaws, sister-in-law and her family) in 2000 because I got to explore the Magic of Disney without having to worry about a little one (my ex and I were childless)! It was most eveident at the end of the night because as we all were on the shuttle going back to our resort, my ex and I were the ones still smiling while those with children looked like they were put through the ringer. I also have always enjoyed Niagara Falls Canada in the Winter….so beautiful. But of course, a book is always present no matter where I’m at!

  2. since iam all ready home retired-i would love to travel!!
