Get Ready to Wed

Ready To WedMy book Ready to Wed, is about Dakota Halifax, a renowned wedding planner who gets stood up at the altar, and then has to somehow go and try to plan other people’s weddings. It’s hard not to think about her failed nuptials when her entire office looks like it’s been decorated by Cupid himself. Even though her hope in love is a bit frayed, one thing hasn’t changed—she’s still one of the best planners out there, and nothing’s going wrong with her clients’ weddings on her watch. Even if she’s suffering through a personal crisis.

Dakota writes a wedding advice column in the local Las Vegas paper called Get Ready To Wed. She’s used to checklists for weddings, and even color-coded, detailed To-Do lists, but now she’s thinking she needs a new checklist to get through day to day, along with a new life plan. So here’s how her new checklist is looking:

  1. Do not take a black Sharpie to the bridal pictures hung on the office walls. Yes, it might be tempting to add a moustache, and the smug bride in the middle could use a few missing teeth, but it’s probably not going to look very good to the clients.
  2. Figure out how to keep a smile on your face even when other brides-to-be having wedding details similar to yours & it’s hard not to feel that pang of sorrow.
  3. Do not start lusting after the friend from your childhood who’s reappeared after fifteen years and is now a security expert and super hot.
  4. Attempt to walk the high road when the social columnist slams your planning skills in the paper thanks to your failed wedding.
  5. Deal with the consequences at work after you failed to walk the high road with said social columnist
  6. Do not think about kissing your new/old friend when he helps you forget about your failed wedding with fun, easy hang-outs. He’s here for moral support, not for ogling and snogging.
  7. Get back the tingly love hope that used to flow through you when you saw lovey-dovey couples
  8. Do not consume massive amounts of wedding cake. Confront ex instead, so you can start getting closure.
  9. Do not notice that new/old friend looks really hot after running shirtless and playing fetch with your dog. Or that he’s really handy with a wrench and a tire jack.
  10. Forget all the do nots involving new/old friend.

READY TO WED

Dakota Halifax loves to be in love. In fact, as one of Las Vegas’s premier wedding planners, she’s built a whole career around romance. Which is why her own wedding has to be nothing short of perfect. And then her fiancé jilts her. While she’s waiting in her wedding dress. On a cruise ship already out at sea.

Once back on dry land, Dakota tries to pour her heart into her business and weekly wedding advice column, Get Ready to Wed. But how can the heartbroken celebrate others’ true love? When she reconnects with her childhood best friend, surprisingly sexy and all-grown-up casino bouncer Brendan West, Dakota wonders if maybe she can fall back in love with being in love.

But then her ex reappears, begging for another chance, and suddenly Dakota questions if she’ll ever understand love. Can someone once-burned and twice-shy ever find her way down the aisle again?
