It’s Raining, It’s Pouring, So Jaycie is Snoring

Nap House 1Seriously, is anything more relaxing than a long, steady autumn rain?

If so, I’ve never encountered it.

Here it is, October 14, Columbus Day, and all I’ve wanted to do all day is take a nap as I listen to the rainfall. Unlike some folks I don’t officially have the day off from work [I’m not complaining, just stating a fact]. But my mind is on its own unofficial holiday.

Oh, don’t get me wrong; I’ve fought the good fight. I’ve made calls and written emails and generally taken care of business . . . but that doesn’t mean I’ve wanted to. I’ve felt instead like I should be curled up somewhere, wearing a comfy old sweater and nearly worn-out jeans with my hands wrapped around a steaming mug of hot tea or chocolate.

Bliss!

Especially since the aforementioned nap would play a role in there somewhere.

There’s a reason why this is my favorite time of year and the gentle rains of fall play a big part.

Of course things wouldn’t be nearly so restful if thunder and lightning were involved. And not just because of the noise they’d make on their own.

At the first flash and rumble, Scout, my Jack Russell Terrorist, would be skittering madly about either the house or my backyard—if I’d somehow been stupid enough to let him slip out—becoming covered in mud while trying to challenge the thunder to a duel.

“You don’t scare me,” I’m pretty sure Scout barks into the skies on such occasions. “Come on down here and make that noise to my face. Then we’ll see whose ankles end up chewed to the bone!”

If you didn’t know better you might not guess this is the same dog who refused to step off the deck this morning to do his business. I’m assuming because he didn’t want to get his paws wet in the boring old thunder-free rain.

Oh well, I guess in one-way or another we’re all a mass of contradictions. Some are just muddier than others.
