It’s all about the PASSION

 by Barbara DeLeo

THE WEDDING WAGER 500x700It’s great to be on Writerspace today. I’m  from Downunder —New Zealand, in fact—so it’s Saturday here already, and just between you and me Friday was AWESOME. You’re gonna love it!

So, about me….I live at the top of the South Island of New Zealand in wine country because my partner-in-parenting-crime is a winemaker. Could I have got any luckier? Well, just between you and me, I was hoping for a cheesecake maker but I’m not giving him back now I’ve trained him. {:o)

While he makes the wine, I write the books and together we try to work out what we must have done in a previous life to have been blessed with four children in two years. I’m thinking I must have either been one of those smug parents who are super organized and have socks that actually MATCH in the kids’ drawers, or else I was something like a nun who’d taken a vow of silence. Whichever it was, I’m certainly learning some lessons this time around!

The main lesson I’ve taken from these fifteen parenting years is to have something in my life that’s completely for myself. In the old days it was just five minutes when I could go to the bathroom without eight eyes trained on me from the doorway. Now its my writing career which I’ve built so painstakingly from a sentence a day when the kids were babies, to a chapter week when they were in kindergarten, to three to four books a year now.

All that hard work resulted in having my first book published in 2012.  It’s a magical feeling to have worked so hard for a dream that came true.

Erin in The Wedding Wager , the second in my Weddings in Westchester series has a passion to prove to her father that she has what it takes to take over his Wedding Hall business. Trouble is, Nick Katsalos, the son of their greatest rival is standing right in her way and the only thing that can break the deadlock is a wager.

Release date:  5/16/16

Nick Katsalos has a foolproof plan to save his parents’ floundering wedding venue. The last thing he expects is for Erin O’Malley, the captivating daughter of his parents’ biggest rival, to waltz in and charm the client who could finally get the family business back on track. Nick would be furious–if only he could stop thinking about her.

When Erin and Nick enter into a wager to determine who will win the contract she prepares for the worst…and is surprised by the glimpses of warmth she sees in the man behind the numbers. But Erin isn’t about to forfeit what could be the biggest wedding of the decade to a man as cold as Nick. Especially since securing it means she could finally prove to her father she’s just as capable of handling the family business as him.

But as the competition heats up, Erin and Nick must decide what’s more important—winning or love.

Barbara DeLeo

Barbara DeLeo’s first book, co-written with her best friend, was a story about beauty queens in space. She was eleven, and the sole, handwritten copy was lost years ago, much to everyone’s relief. It’s some small miracle that she kept the faith and is now living her dream of writing sparkling contemporary romance with unforgettable characters. After completing degrees in Psychology and English then travelling the world, Barbara married her winemaker hero and had two sets of twins. She still loves telling stories about finding love in all the wrong places, with not a beauty queen or spaceship in sight

The Vestal Virgins

On my recent trip to Rome to finish researching St. Cecilia’s life for my historical fiction novel, Virgin Martyr, I spent some time at the Temple of Vesta and the home of the ancient Roman Vestal Virgins. One of my purposes in writing this book was to investigate how attitudes about women’s sexuality and social… Read More
