It all starts with a viral video…

April May Fall is the love story of influencer April Davis and fixer Jack Gibson.

April is a mommy influencer with the Calm Mom brand for all things serene and peaceful in motherhood. When a video of not-calm April goes viral for all the wrong reasons, her brand is in jeopardy.

Enter Jack Gibson—the fixer for the media company responsible for her image. He’s pressed suits, (currently) thrilled to be single, and about to dive headfirst into the chaos of single motherhood.

These two go on quite the adventure while April discovers new truths about authenticity and falling in love.

I had planned to write this post about five of my favorite viral videos. But then I started re-watching viral videos and there are just so many that make laugh and deserve the top spot. Also, this research took a solid amount of time because once you go down the viral video rabbit hole you keep hopping along.

I did discover that the first viral video (according to the internet) was a banana dancing to the peanut butter and jelly song. Oh, how I love singing this song as I make PB&Js for my own kids. They, however, were not around during the initial flare of brilliance for this video, so they just don’t get it. I’m okay with that. I am confident in my curated palate for spectacular videos.

After watching this video for about five minutes, I searched up the one I always think of when I go to favorite viral videos. The wedding of Jill and Kevin which was famously recreated on The Office. (You can find the original video here: http://jkweddingdance.com/. It’s had over 100 million views. A solid number of those were by yours truly.)

Here’s the thing. I watched this video. I then watched about an hour of other videos of signing children, people tripping famously, and animals acting like humans. Oh! And I’m looking at you Rebecca Black. I paused to take in that goodness, too. I lo-o-ove the Friday song—again, much to my children’s dismay.

Even after all of that, I came back to the wedding video because it epitomizes what I love in life and romance: having fun, making a spectacle, and making memories.

Isn’t that what gives a viral video and a good romantic comedy longevity? I like to think so. Celebrating love is what my books are about—especially April and Jack’s story. I know you’ll love it, too.

I’d love to give away a print copy of April May Fall. (Contest open internationally.)

To enter, answer this question:

If you had a video go viral, what would it be about?

I’ll pop back by and check out the comments on December 1, 2021. I will use a random number generator to pick one winner from those who comment.

The Vestal Virgins

On my recent trip to Rome to finish researching St. Cecilia’s life for my historical fiction novel, Virgin Martyr, I spent some time at the Temple of Vesta and the home of the ancient Roman Vestal Virgins. One of my purposes in writing this book was to investigate how attitudes about women’s sexuality and social… Read More
