Cowboy Heat Anthology featuring Drop Two Tears in a Bucket by Shoshanna Evers

I’ve loved sexy cowboys ever since I wrote Overheated, so when Delilah Devlin said she was looking for short cowboy stories for a new cowboy romance anthology, I was all over it!

In Drop Two Tears in a Bucket, my contribution to the Cleis Press anthology COWBOY HEAT, I imagined what it must be like to be a woman who owned a cattle ranch—a woman who has a bunch of super-hot cowboys running around taking care of business.

When Ellie gets the final divorce papers from her ex-husband, Shayne is there to help her pick up the pieces.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Lemme tell you something, Ellie.” Shayne rubbed his jaw with his rough, calloused hand. “Best piece of advice I ever got for dealing with trouble.”

Ellie cocked her head to the side, running her fingers through her hair—hair that had once been blonde and was now light brown.

You’re gonna tell me about trouble?” She laughed and shook her head. “You are trouble, boy.”

“Yeah I am.” Shayne stood from the chair and pushed it aside. “Here it is, and excuse my language for a moment. You ready for some mountain wisdom?” He paused, as if to make sure she was paying attention. “Drop two tears in a bucket—and motherfuck it.”

Ellie burst into laughter. “Drop two tears in a bucket and motherfuck it,” she repeated. “That’s some honest wisdom, right there.”

Shayne grinned and lifted her by the hands from her chair until she stood.

He was a tall man, that cowboy. His body filled her vision, the muscles in his shoulders straining against his work shirt. He smelled like the horses he and the men rode around the property, but she didn’t mind. Liked it, actually.

Shayne smelled like home.

“You wanna celebrate?” he asked softly.

She nodded, not quite sure what she was agreeing to.

His rough-skinned hands were gentle as he carefully pushed her hair behind her ears, out of her face. But instead of stopping there, stopping short of doing anything—the way he always did—he left his hand in her hair, slowly pulling it back behind her shoulders and down, so she had no choice but to look up into his handsome face.

“Shayne,” she whispered, but he cut off her words with a kiss.

I just love Cowboys… and if they are packing HEAT… all the better.

  3. Kate I. says:

As a native Texan, I’m interested in any book that would remind me of home. Stories featuring cowboys are even better! I did have to laugh, though, because the last time I read the “tears in a bucket” phrase was in HIDING MY CANDY: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF THE GRAND EMPRESS OF SAVANNAH, as it was the motto of the Lady Chablis, aka The Doll (who is the complete opposite of a cowboy).

    1. LOL Kate! I first heard it on Twitter, when one of my readers told me “Drop two tears in a bucket… and motherf*ck it.” I was like, omg! Can I use that? LOL Apparently it’s a common idiom I’d just never heard before!

  4. Marina Marinova says:

How to write about the pandemic without writing about the pandemic.

Hi! Thank you, Writerspace, for giving me the chance to say a few words about my new book from Entangled Publishing, IT’S RAINING MEN. It’s the story of a doctor who, after a night of too much tequila, texts a bunch of men in her address book, asking them to marry her…and she’s shocked to… Read More
