Happy Ice Cream Month!

Hello Readers and Happy July!

I don’t know how it is in your neck of the woods, but here in northern Colorado, it’s sweltering outside. We’ve made new records this year with the number of days over 100 degrees. I have a whole new appreciation for ceiling fans and our lovely box air conditioner in our bedroom. At least we’ve been able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air in the evenings.

Happily, hot days are the perfect time for ice cream (although is there ever a bad time for ice cream?) Not only is July National Ice Cream Month, but today is National Creative Ice Cream Flavors day. I’ve seen many weird flavors in my day, but I don’t often try them, as I have my own favorite few (mint chip, chocolate brownie and chocolate-chocolate chip).

From the Ben and Jerry’s website, their Top Ten Weirdest Flavors are:

  • Shweddy Balls (Vanilla ice cream with a hit of rum, loaded with fudge-covered rum and malt balls)
  • Miz Jelena’s Sweet Potato Pie (Ginger ice cream with a fudge swirl)
  • Dastardly Mash (Nuts and raisins)
  • Oh, Pear (Pear with a hint of almond and light fudge swirl
  • Urban Jumble (Coconut almond fudge chip meets New York Super Fudge Chunk)
  • Chubby Hubby (Vanilla malt ice cream, peanutty fudge-covered pretzels and fudge and peanut buttery swirls)
  • Wavy Gravy (Cashew Brazil nut ice cream with chocolate hazelnut fudge swirl and roasted almonds)
  • Boston Cream Pie (Yellow cake pieces and pastry cream)
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly (Self-explanatory 😊)
  • Peanuts! Popcorn! (Caramel ice cream with white fudge-covered caramel popcorn, toffee-coated peanuts and a caramel swirl)

In my July release from Harlequin Love Inspired, #3 in my Rocky Mountain Family series called The Marine’s Mission, marine sergeant Aaron Jamison and heroine Ruby Winslow enjoy a hot summer afternoon at the local ice cream parlor along with his service dog, standard poodle Oscar. Ruby and Aaron each select mint chocolate, and Oscar gets a nice cup of whipped cream with a doggie bone.

So what about you? Have you ever tried a crazy/weird ice cream flavor? Do you have a favorite flavor? One person who comments will win an ice cream themed prize!

    rocky road

    1. Yum! That’s one of my hubby’s favorites.

  2. Colleen C. says:

Love ice cream, but I have never really tried some with interesting names…. some of the above do sound good!

    1. I’m too picky to try most of them, but I suspect my grandkids would like a few.

  3. Vicki says:

I like the sound of the Boston Cream Pie Ben & Jerry’s! I think the weirdest one I have ever tried is the vegan Salty Caramel Ash from Frankie and Jo’s in Seattle. It is very black and made with activated charcoal and I hadn’t seen black ice cream before, let alone tried a vegan one. It was really tasty though Salted Caramel isn’t one of my favorite flavors like it is for my man, who REALLY loved it.

    1. Black ice cream? Not sure I’d be brave enough. Two of my three daughters are vegan, though, and I’m sure they’d love it!!

  4. Crystal says:

My favorite Ice Cream flavor is Butter Pecan.
The weirdest/craziest Ice Cream flavor I’ve tried was Peach flavor. It looks good but in my opinion it’s nothing great.

    1. I would have thought peach would be awesome. I suppose it depends on who makes it.

  5. Amber says:

Not sure I have a favorite, love trying all wacky flavors, eat it almost daily year around and my local shoppe makes a “Moose Tracks” that is to live for 😁, it’s vanilla with various chocolate goodies – don’t ask for a bite, get your own – it’s that good!

    1. Yum! I love moose tracks. All the goodies!

  6. GB says:

Black licorice flavored ice cream, but I am a fan of the flavor. However, my all time favorite ice cream flavor is Mocha Almond Fudge.

    1. It would have to be a big no on the black licorice flavor, but I’d definitely try mocha almond fudge. Yum!

  7. Ashley F. says:

I have to say I’ve tried the pband J and normally I would like such but the ice cream didn’t quite get it right too sickly sweet. I’m more a fan of chocolate peanut butter or fudge/moose tracks.

    1. You’d think pb&j would be a win in ice cream but I heard not so much.

  8. Cherie Ballog says:

I like the more traditional flavors like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. If I want to go “crazy” I’ll add some hot fudge. That’s as wild as my ice cream palate gets. Your book sounds like a fun July read with an American hero thrown in! Keep writing! Cherie

  9. Ive never tried anything crazy, but I like vanilla ice cream with sweet strawberries and blend in chocolate magic shell topping before it gets hard. I call it chocolate covered strawberries.🍨🍓🍫
