You Gotta Risk it to Get the Biscuit

riskI’m a risk taker.

Well, about some things, anyway.

While I’m a certified SCUBA diver and truly enjoyed parasailing, most of the risks I’ve taken have involved my professional life.

I’ve opened a couple of businesses, created and developed my own product lines, accepted positions with risky startups, tried careers that have little if anything to do with past professions or my formal education.

Generally, I’m the girl who—when I get together with old friends after a long period of being out of touch—ends up having the others tilt their heads in my direction, scrunch up their faces and say “you do what?’

It’s been a lot of fun . . . and pretty darn scary at times, but it’s kept me feeling alive.

Looking back, I don’t know that I would change a thing. Including those experiences that ended up going down in flames, followed by a massive, earth-scorching explosion.

And yes, there were definitely a couple of those.

But one way or another, everything has worked out in every way that matters, at least to me.

I’ve learned new things, met interesting people, honed skills I wouldn’t have had otherwise. And have enjoyed a big ol’ pile of fun times along the way. In the meantime, some of the folks I’ve known who stayed at “secure” jobs they abhorred ended up getting laid off.

All of which goes to show there are simply no guarantees. Not for any of us about any thing.

So, far as I’m concerned, we might as well head in whatever direction we’re most likely to enjoy . . . as long as it’s legal and not likely to hurt someone else.

HOW ABOUT YOU, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RISKS YOU’VE TAKEN IN LIFE? DO YOU FEEL THEY WERE WORTH IT OR WOULD YOU DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY IF GIVEN A CHANCE? A FREE COPY OF MY DEBUT NOVEL, MRS. GOODFELLER WILL BE RANDOMLY AWARDED TO ONE PERSON WHO LEAVES A COMMENT BELOW BEFORE THE NEXT WRITERSPACE BLOG IS POSTED.
