Five Fun Characteristics of an Author

rebecca-4-e1279489709171I just returned from the RT Convention in New Orleans, and my brain hasn’t quite kicked back into gear yet.  But I was mulling over some fun things on the plane yesterday, so I thought I’d share five characteristics of a writer with you today.

1.  Homeland Security is probably monitoring our internet use.  Seriously.  I’ve googled how to bury bodies, transmit infectious diseases, and discourage civil unrest throughout the world.  I’ve researched how far down in the ground one should bury a body if it’s near a river.  Honestly.   Just in the spirit of research.  LOL!

2.  We re-write conversations in our heads as they’re happening.  I can’t tell you how often I’m re-writing dialogue while trying to concentrate as somebody talks to me.  People think writers are quiet.  In truth?  We’re trying not to speak for other people out loud.

3.  The UPS guy has had to rescue us from something at least at one point.  I had a writing buddy ask on a loop if anyone could shimmy out of handcuffs from back to front.  We had cuffs from a Halloween party, and I gave it a shot, instantly trapping myself.  The UPS guy was at the door…and he helped me out.  But now I think he’s scared of me.

tamed-ebook4.  We get real people and imaginary character confused.  I’d like to tell you I’m joking here, but once in a while, I do think…”Did I really have that conversation?”  It’s true.  But kind of funny, right?

5.  Our families put up with a lot.  My husband is a hottie, and he’s a lot of fun.  He’s also, unfortunately, a rather private person.  So when the elderly lady at the bank nudges him, winks, and asks if he’s the inspiration for my books, he used to blush.  Now he just nods and says ‘yes.’  LOL!

Thank you for letting me play today, and I hope you are gentle with the authors in your lives.  We’re a goofy bunch, but our hearts are in the right place.  Have a wonderful rest of the week!
