FINDING YOUR PERFECT SUMMER BEACH READ

by Maria Geraci

Whether you go the beach, the lake, the mountains, or just hang around the house, the long lazy days of summer are a perfect time to catch up on your reading. And there’s no better reading than a good juicy beach read.

What makes a good summer read?

Well, it depends on your tastes.

When I’m sitting on my chair looking over at the waves (yes, I’m a beach girl!) I know exactly what I want. I want fun. I want a smart heroine. I want a hunky hero that I can swoon over. And most of all I want a good story that will keep me turning the pages and leaves a smile on my face when I get to the end.

Oh, and let not forget to add in our favorite tropes. A good beach read has a clear trope we can identify that immediately makes us think “I want to read that!” For instance, I love a good enemies-to-lovers romance or an ugly duckling story or my all-time favorite The My Fair Lady trope (when one of the characters has to make over the one).

For the fifth book in my Whispering Bay romance series THIS CAN’T BE LOVE, I did a roommates-to-lovers trope, a modern twist on the popular marriage-of-convenience story. These stories are so much fun to write because you basically put two people who usually can’t stand one another in a situation that forces them to be together all the time, and well, the rest is history.

I’d love to make THIS CAN’T BE LOVE your perfect summer read, so I’m running a sale from now till July 8. At just 99 cents it’s more than just a fun and sexy read, it’s a bargain!

Oh, and I’ll be on the Writerspace Facebook page doing a chat this Thursday, June 14. Join me for more fun and some awesome giveaways!

The Vestal Virgins

On my recent trip to Rome to finish researching St. Cecilia’s life for my historical fiction novel, Virgin Martyr, I spent some time at the Temple of Vesta and the home of the ancient Roman Vestal Virgins. One of my purposes in writing this book was to investigate how attitudes about women’s sexuality and social… Read More
