Ever Meet an Angel?

Since my post that was titled: “Dancing with the Angels” was so popular, I decided to go on with that theme. So have you ever met an angel? As a Christian, I do believe in angels, the messengers of God. I believe in the unseen (by us) spirit world. And I think I might have met an angel once in a very unlikely place–Dallas. ‘-)

I was attending my second Romance Writers of America Conference there in a huge hotel. I had an appointment to “pitch” my stories and me to an agent. But I heard she charged a reading fee and that was something I wasn’t going to do. So I was at the appointment desk turning in my time slot so another author might use it.

I turned to walk away and a woman standing to the side of the area against the wall caught my eye. I went over and said, “Can I help you? You look like you’re feeling ill.”

She replied, “I’m getting a migraine.”

Well, I’d suffered from the same and offered the only help I had, two generic ibuprofen tablets. She accepted, saying that she wouldn’t sue me. I turned to leave and she asked, “Would you like to know who Francine Rivers’ agent is?”

Now that was interesting because Francine is the most successful inspirational author I knew of–still is. And I was writing and submitting to that same market. But I’d said nothing to this woman –so how did she know that would be of interest to me?

I said–yes, of course. And that’s how I signed with the same agent as this very successful writer. AND I’m still with her agency twenty years later and signing with her made all the difference in my career–for the better.

Afterward, I thought–how did that woman in Dallas know? And when I submitted to the agent, she didn’t read any more than my query letter and signed me. How often does that happen? Well, I’m not certain of course that I did meet an angel that day. Perhaps she was a human who was prompted to speak to me in one of those moments where the divine intervenes. But I can only be grateful.

I’ve never written about angels in any of my books. For some reason many inspirational editors shy away from that. But if you’d like to read a really great contemporary romance where the hero (a very handsome cowboy) has the same kind of –“Did I or didn’t I?” experience, try Becky Wade’s Undeniably Yours. It’s a great Texas Cowboy-Poor Little Rich Girl romance–one of my faves.  For more about my books and me, drop by www.LynCote.com. Would you like more about angels?
