Hi Debra Clopton here, so glad to share with you today!
Do you love weddings? I do, I do, I do–I write romance so all my characters are working toward getting married, they may not know it when the book starts, but they get on board before the end comes around–thank goodness or they sure would leave me hanging out on a limb as the author. When I was asked to write AN AUGUST BRIDE as part of the Year Of Weddings Novella Collection I immediately got on board. And I brought along my matchmakers from Mule Hollow, put them in a new setting for one of their nieces beach wedding and had fun shaking things up with them in a different setting other than their home town of Mule Hollow. They had fun and so did I and that usually means my readers will too. Corpus Christi Texas has gorgeous beaches and is called the Texas Rivera because of the sparkling blue water and white sugar sand. It was a beautiful place for a story and I’m certain that I’ll be creating more stories in this setting in the future…you know something like The Cowboys of the Texas Rivera Series…or something along those lines. Its just too perfect a combination with cowboys, ranches and blue water beaches for me not to run with it!
I was asked what my favorite part of weddings is and my answer-other than the happy couple saying their vows of true love and commitment to each other-is the unexpected things that happen at weddings. Maybe its just me, but I love that! For instance at my wedding to Chuck, my two adult sons walked me down the aisle, their father had passed away 7 years earlier so this was a big deal for my adult sons to hand me over to Chuck who they’ve come to love. At the rehearsal the pastor instructed them very carefully that they had to wait until he asked “Who gives this woman,” and then they were supposed to say “My brother and I before they handed me over to Chuck.” So on the night of the wedding Chase and Kris walked me down the aisle and Chuck came to the edge of the stage to get me and the boys wouldn’t let me go. And Chuck got this funny look on his face and then the pastor realized he’d forgotten to say “Who gives this woman.” Everyone realized what had happened at the same time and the entire 350 guest at our Cowboy Church started laughing. It was quite funny and the boys got a kick out of it. It just set the tone for the happy time and the fun we have had and will have. So maybe I’m strange, but that’s my favorite part of the wedding or reception. And so, of course I had to include something unexpected and fun in AN AUGUST BRIDE too!

AN AUGUST BRIDE
As far as Kelsey Wilcox is concerned, her last cowboy was the last cowboy.
Kelsey Wilcox has had enough of cowboys. After the last one broke her heart, Kelsey traded in her boots for flip-flops, and the open range for a bistro on the beach. Her life on Corpus Christi’s gorgeous beach might be a little lonely, but at least it’s heartbreak-free. At least until her cousin’s beachside wedding bucks Kelsey right back into the rodeo.
When unlucky-in-love Brent Corbin packed his groomsman’s tux for his friend’s wedding, he brought his boots and belt buckle with him. Brent isn’t exactly looking for love, but when he sees what appears to be a mermaid in distress, he jumps right in to rescue her.
So Kelsey finds herself plucked from the sea—and certain-drowning—by a gorgeous groomsman . . . in soaked cowboy boots. She’s quick to say thanks, but no thanks.
Brent dedicates the weekend to pursuing Kelsey—and Kelsey spends the weekend trying to deny an obvious match. She’s as stubborn as a wild horse, but Brent’s determination may tame her yet.
