Cue ‘The Sound of Music’ Soundtrack

I’d like to talk a little bit about favourite things, but this time, I’m going to leave books out of it.  Why leave them out?  Because I don’t think I have a non-favourite book on any of my shelves, so we probably don’t have the space to list them all here.   Instead, I’d like to share 5 of my favourite things that I have right here in my office with me.

Baby molds1.  The plaster casts we made of the boys’ fists and feet when they were babies. The yellowish ones are from Little Darling #1 and were made out of the stuff they use for dental molds (a friend of mine is a dental hygienist).  The other 2 sets were made from kits we found in a gift store.  Best $20 I ever spent.  If you could see my Little Darlings now, one’s in university, the other two in high school, you’d never believe these casts came from them.  Most days, *I* don’t believe it! LOL

Jeter2.  My Derek Jeter bobble head. I don’t think there’s a baseball fan anywhere who can say anything bad about The Captain.  And if you’re a Yankees fan like I am, it’s darn near impossible.  I have a bunch of other Yankees paraphernalia, but the bobble head is one of my faves because my youngest Little Darling gave it to me for no reason.  He saw it in a store and knew I’d like it, so he bought it for me.  That’s a good boy right there!

Desk

3.  My grandfather’s roll-top desk. I honestly don’t know how old it is, but even as a little kid, I loved everything about it, especially looking through the ‘treasures’ he always had stored in the little cubbies – everything from old stamps to bits of string to those yummy peppermints he always seemed to have.  There’s a chair that goes with it, but it’s at my mom’s house.

Post-Its4.  Post-It Notes. I’m not even kidding – these are some of my all-time favourite things!  And if they’re lined. . . .oh my goodness, that’s like an extra scoop of hot fudge on your sundae.  Small, big, yellow, multi-coloured, square, round, it doesn’t matter.  To my way of thinking, Post-It Notes are like books in that one can never have too many.

5.  And last but not least – Bic ™ pens. As is the case with most writers, I have pens everywhere, especially in and around my desk.  There’s different brands, different styles, different sizes and colours. . .my husband even bought me a Bic PensMont Blanc for Christmas. . .but when push comes to shove, I’ll choose a cheap old plastic Bic ™ pen any day of the week.  The tip isn’t too fine or too fat, I can see when the ink is running out, and they come in the basic 3 colours I need.  They’re perfect.  But God help the person who dares to borrow one and then returns it without the lid.  That’s just wrong.  LOL

So those are just a few of my favourite things.  I’d love to hear about some of yours, so look around you right now, pick one or two and tell us why it’s your favourite.

hot pursuit.

Even when her hair salon goes under and she’s on the brink of breaking, Regan Burke keeps her …I’m just fine” attitude. It’s the exact wrong time for Carter Scott to come into her life and to be so damn sexy, so distracting, and so determined to get close.

Carter isn’t looking for anything serious—his heart belongs to the kids who depend on his pediatric practice—but something about Regan makes him reconsider. Maybe it’s the scars she hides so well, the secrets she can’t share. Carter knows all about that kind of pain, and he wants to help. But offering Regan a job in his office only makes things worse, even if their chemistry is off the charts. Lucky for them both, Carter isn’t about to let go of love without a fight.

Laura Drewry

The first book Laura ever owned was On the Banks of Plum Creek, which still sits up on the top shelf with the rest of the Little House series. She blames her mother for her book addiction because it was her mother who always had a couple books on the go at the same time, and who used to read and watch The Edge of Night at the same time.

Laura had been scribbling things for years before she decided to seriously sit down and write. It helped that she and her husband had just moved 700 km away from their families, it was the dead of winter and she was about 49 months pregnant with their second child, all of which gave her the excuse she needed to hunker down and get at it.

Her books have been described as “delightful,” “clever,” and “smart, sassy and refreshingly different.”

After spending eight years in the Canadian north, Laura now lives back home in southwestern British Columbia with her husband, three sons, a turtle named Sheldon and an extremely energetic German Shepherd. She loves old tattered books, good movies, country music and the Yankees.
