It’s that time of year again! We’ve made it to the third without the youngest asking to open a present yet, so victory is mine!
When I think of Christmas, three things stick out and all involve sweets! I’ll admit, I have an addiction to the Christmas frosted sugar cookies my grandma made. So obviously, those are a definite staple.
Second, out of all the things my kids may ask for, the first thing they do is check their stockings for the giant Hershey Kiss Santa brings every year. Even the oldest at eighteen still grabs her stocking first. Love the simple things.
The last is a demand the three kids will not let me get by without. Christmas mints. They’re really only cream cheese mints, but I only make them at Christmas. They all help, but we rarely have enough to put out for dinner by the time we’re done because they eat more than they help!
Here’s to traditions and family… I wish you the best for you and your families!
Hugs,
Amy
CHRISTMAS MINTS
1 – 8 oz package of cream cheese
1 –2 lb box of powdered sugar
Peppermint extract, 10-11 drops
Food coloring –optional
Granulated sugar – for rolling
–Mix all together except granulated sugar. When mixed, roll into small round balls, barely bigger than a pea, roll in sugar, press flat with thumb on waxed paper and let dry overnight. Wahlaaa!

Thank you so much. Those mints sound wonderful and so easy to make. Like your family, the stocking is the first thing my three grandsons grab, and they are all teenagers. You can fit such fun little gifts inside. Their stockings are the one thing they get to open before breakfast and they usually are up by 4am to see what’s inside.
Ahhhh! Smart! Maybe if at 4, I let them do their stockings, they’d let me sleep until 4:30???? 😀 Merry Christmas!
soudns delicious. Our biggest tradition is xmas eve we always open one present whihc is always pjs and a movie 🙂 we put on the pjs watch the movie set out cookies and milk and head to bed 🙂
Oh that sounds awesome! We are always rushing in late from one side of the family, hurrying to read “T’was the Night Before Christmas” and pushing their butts to bed! hehehehee
Thank you for the mint recipe! I just took a candy making class at a local bakery, and my daughter and I are excited to try it out at home this weekend in between her dancing in the town festivities (she’s in a dance company for a local studio). My mom always makes 5 different types of cookies each year. The standout is one called “Chocolate Rock” which is basically a cocoa cookie ball filled with nuts and raisins, and frosted (my job) in bright colors. It wouldn’t be Christmas without them, and I’m blessed to have all her recipes so that I can continue the tradition when she’s no longer able!
I see we both like peppermint. Our family has to have peppermint flavored hot cocoa Christmas Eve as we open one gift each.
I love pumpkin pie. Must have during the holidays.
One family tradition are girls, who are 19 and 21, insist on is saving the stockings and some presents to put out after they are in bed. Of course in the morning they’re snooping under the tree trying to guess some of the presents. 🙂 As for my favourite sweets one of them is shortbread cookies. You’d think I would be tired of them because I lose counts on how many dozens of them I make every year but they’re still my favourite. This year I’m going to try some with skor bits and chocolate drizzle.
I would love to receive some swag if you don’t mind sending it to Canada. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I make homemade anise cookies for Christmas breakfast
Creme DeMenthe Squares and Peanutbutter kiss cookies. But homemade marshsmellow is next up.
