Do you have a pet or pets? Do you like to read books with pets in them? I have cats. I love dogs but I don’t have a large property where I can let them run and I live on a country road without much place to walk. So cats are easier. (And my husband takes care of the cat box! Now that’s true love.) I often include characters with pets; however, my pets never have a “voice” in the story-spoken or implied. They are just beloved pets.
I do enjoy a book with pets who do more than sleep and groom themselves. How about the late Lillian Jackson Braun’s “The Cat Who” series? I posted a blog review of her first book. Her last few books were disappointing. I think there is a time to put away the “pen” but if you have a best-selling series, that’s hard to walk away from–IMHO. But you can go wrong with THE CAT WHO READ BACKWARDS, Book 1, for more info, click here.
I’ve also reviewed Edie Claire’s Leigh Koslow Mysteries series, how about Never Steal a Cockatiel? Click here to read my review. The heroine Leigh Koslow has a persnikety Siamese and a father who is a vet–animals, pets galore! The photo at the beginning is of my two present cats, V-8 (for his mighty purr) and Trickster (for obvious reasons!)
One of my bargain books this month, Spring’s Storm, has a golden retriever and a cat who are important to the story (but they don’t say anything. On sale for 99 cents, normally $3.99 December 22 through 26. click here for more info. Hope you find a good “pet” story soon and Merry Christmas!
