Brides Bonanza

by Joanne Rock

The Wedding AuditionEveryone loves a bride.

If you’ve been reading romance for any length of time, you know how much romance readers enjoy reading about a bride. There are brides on the covers of our books and brides in the title. The Cowboy’s Bride, the Millionaire’s Bride, the Sheriff’s Bride, Princess Bride, Cinderella Bride. Scarlet Wilson has a title releasing May 4 called the Fairy Tale Bride. How pretty is that?

I am not immune to the lure of a wedding gown either. When I wrote for Harlequin’s Blaze line, the bride idea wasn’t a focus since the red hot series is more focused on Mr. Right Now who may or may not turn into Mr. Right. And in my books for Harlequin Historicals, I got to write some brides, but since the stories were medieval romances, there were no fluffy white trains or tulle veils.  The medieval romance heroines were sometimes betrothed in childhood or kidnapped by a warring Scots lord and coerced into marriage. Definitely no fairy tale!

So even though I’ve written many romances over many years, I realized recently that I hadn’t done enough brides. And isn’t that a storyline that’s long overdue for me?

How to Lose a Groom in 10 DaysIn short order, I had a whole host of wedding stories come to mind. Characters arrived fully formed. Beautiful dresses danced past my eyes like a Disney princess musical sequence. It was exciting! But as I chatted about the bridal stories with my brainstorming partner, Catherine Mann, the Runaway Brides idea really stuck. So much so we decided to write the series together and make a really fun time of it.

The series has four stories, beginning with a FREE novella you should download now. How to Lose a Groom in 10 Days is a fun read and I hope it will entice you to try the rest of the series, including The Wedding Audition, which is available now.  May brings There Goes the Bride and June finishes up the series with Bride on the Run.

So what do you think? Ready to see four brides really bail on that long walk down the aisle? It’s a bride bonanza!

Rise of the Firestarter: What Makes a Hero?

The romance and superhero genres have one major element in common: they’re about hope. That means Alec Farley, the star of my first superhero romance, Rise of the Firestarter, had to be heroic as a romance hero and as a “super” hero. Since this is the first book in my Phoenix Institute series, Alec also… Read More
