Eland and Jeanne
by Allyson James

Jeanne Narren is awakened one night by a pounding on her door—a huge, gorgeous man called Eland falls onto her, begging for water. Moved by compassion, Jeanne lets him in.

She does not know he is Shareem, a level three, fleeing the closure of DNAmo, and hunted through the streets. Eland is grateful for the help, but knows he can’t endanger Jeanne by staying. But Jeanne has treated him like a human being, not a lab experiment, and he can’t quite forget her.

Eland strives to stay alive and search the city for the Shareem called Rees, who might be able to help him off planet. At the same time Jeanne hunts for Eland, intrigued by this man with blue eyes who makes her feel beautiful. She meets other Shareem, and Judith, a bar owner who harbors them. When Eland finds Jeanne again, she is ready for the experience only Shareem can provide. But the danger is real, and Eland must flee or pay with his life.

Eland and Jeanne, a prequel to the Shareem series, takes place chronologically twenty years before Rees (Book 1). The story was originally published as a short (4500-word) story called Eland—now revised and expanded into a 36,000-word, fifteen chapter novella. The characters Eland and Jeanne also appear in Rio, Justin, and Kieran.

Allyson James' Bio

Allyson James is a psuedonym of romance writer Jennifer Ashley. Allyson dreamed of being a published writer since the age of eight, writing love stories before she knew what romances were. She wrote fantasy and science fiction while in college, and after obtaining her master's degree and a job in the real world. she decided to stop dreaming and try to be a full-time published author.

She published the first short story she ever submitted in Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine, which gave her the false illusion that getting published was easy. After many more submissions and rejections, she sold her first novel to Dorchester in 2002, and made her second sale to Berkley with a series of historical mysteries. She continues to write for Dorchester under the name Jennifer Ashley.

Deciding to take up the challenge of writing erotic romance, Allyson submitted Tales of the Shareem: Rees to Ellora's Cave, and discovered she liked writing hotter, more graphic romances. She continues to write both scorching romances for Ellora's Cave and more mainstream (but still hot) romances for Dorchester.

Allyson lives with her soul mate, an avid reader himself, in the sunny southwest in a houseful of books. Allyson welcomes mail from readers. Write to her at [email protected].
