Autumn Books and Comfort Food

by Ariella Moon

Fall has arrived in the southern California desert! With daytime temperatures dropping 30+ degrees to around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, I can finally fire up the stove and concoct one of my favorite comfort foods, butternut squash soup. You can find the recipe here.

Book News

Did you know Vikings believed it was disgraceful and unmanly for males to practice magic (seid)? Yes, when not sipping soup, I am researching Viking culture for background for THE VIKING MIST, the upcoming follow-up to my Young Adult Arthurian fantasy adventure/romances THE BELTANE ESCAPE and THE AMBER ELIXIR.

December should see the reissue of SPELL FIRE, Book 3, The Teen Wytche Saga. This updated version contains new chapters in the sweet paranormal romance about a girl with obsessive-compulsive disorder whose parents ditch her at Christmas. I am grateful to the fans of the original SPELL FIRE who thanked me for my realistic depiction of OCD and anxiety.

Speaking of gratitude, for those celebrating Thanksgiving this month, may your holiday be a bountiful celebration of family and friends.

THE BELTANE ESCAPE
Two Realms Book 1

Lady Fenella, ever surrounded by guards, knows only responsibility and duty. She believes Merlin and the Lady of the Lake are myths, Gran’s warnings about Fairy are superstition, and Fairy was invented to make children behave.

But then Gran brands her, Lord Argonshire kidnaps her, and the Lady of the Lake makes her a pawn. The Highland heiress must betray her newly betrothed and fend for herself when she dives into a wormhole to save her cousin. She lands in a part of Fairy even fairies avoid, and joins forces with a half-Viking/half-Fairy.

Fenella must use her wits to find her cousin, free the Lady of the Lake, and reach the wormhole in Glastonbury by Beltane. Nine days to unshackle herself from a sorceress, prevent a war between two clans, and decide in which realm—and with which lad—she truly belongs. Oh, and The Most Powerful Wizard stands in her way.

THE AMBER ELIXIR
Two Realms Novella

Viviane, the new Lady of the Lake and High Priestess of Avalon, accepts a challenge from Merlin unaware her bold actions will have tragic consequences. Two of her priestesses are turned to stone. A forbidden love deserts her. Now alone, she has six young handmaidens to train and protect.

When Morgan le Fay demands assistance with a spell that could change the balance of power in the Two Realms, Viviane refuses her. But what if Morgan’s secret knowledge could restore the stone priestesses? Will an alliance prompt Viviane’s love to return? Or will the gamble cost her all she holds dear?

Ariella Moon draws upon her experiences as a shaman and former teen to create magical Young Adult fiction. Her Two Realms Trilogy is a medieval fantasy adventure series. The Teen Wytche Saga is a series of sweet contemporary paranormal romances.

Ariella spent her childhood searching for a magical wardrobe that would transport her to Narnia. Extreme math anxiety and taller students that mistook her for a leaning post marred her youth. Despite these horrors, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Davis. She lives a nearly normal life doting on her extraordinary daughter, two shamelessly spoiled dogs, and a media-shy dragon.
