Aging Oh, So Nicely

harryconnickjrI’m watching Jimmy Kimmel and his two guests are Kevin Costner and Harry Connick, Jr. Now, these are two guys I’ve never heard accused of being whacked with an ugly stick. However, I noticed something right off the bat tonight: for my money, they’re both looking better than ever.

In other words, they’re aging nicely.

Watching them closely (purely to help me assess things for the purpose of writing this post, of course) I think a big part of their enhancement is that each has  put on the tiniest bit of weight, like five, or at most, ten additional pounds.

kevin costnerThis has rounded them out nicely.

Previously sharp angles in their faces have been filled out. This has resulted in the two hotties looking like they’ve reached their full potential.

And it never dawned on me until tonight that their potential had yet to be fully realized. Who knew that so much fineness could get even better?!

Both guys also look comfortable in their own bodies and with who they are. Let’s face it, there’s nothing more appealing than that.

For real.

On top of all this, unlike so many celebrities today—male and female alike—neither Costner nor Connick looks stitched, peeled or botoxed. They just look wonderfully approachable and real.

If they have had work done, they got their money’s worth; ‘cause, damn, those boys look good!

Me likee!

And that’s the way life should work. There oughta be a law that we all look better, or at the very least more comfortable with ourselves, as we age.

HOW ABOUT YOU? IS THERE A CELEBRITY OR SOMEONE IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE WHO SEEMS TO BE IMPROVING WITH AGE?  A FREE COPY OF MY DEBUT NOVEL, MRS. GOODFELLER, WILL BE RANDOMLY AWARDED TO ONE PERSON WHO LEAVES A COMMENT BELOW BEFORE THE NEXT WRITERSPACE BLOG IS POSTED.

I can’t think of any right now. But you are right. They do look better. I know its a double standard, but it just looks more wrong to me when men get “fixed”. I don’t think there is anything wrong with people doing it. But for most, it does not look natural. Especially men.

    1. I’ve gotta agree with you on this, Lisa. I don’t enjoy a “fixed” look for men, either. It doesn’t look natural or attractive. But I also agree there’s nothing wrong with people doing it, it’s just that all too often people look worse instead of better after going through a procedure.

George Clooney became better-looking as he aged. He’s quite handsome now (compared to his younger days). If you watched the most recent Kennedy Center Honors broadcast, you would have seen Harry Belafonte at the lectern. That man looks GOOD especially for 86 years old! I was AMAZED! (On a personal note, my 68yo mother gets hit on all the time by men 20+ years her junior. I wish I’d gotten that non-aging gene from her but I’m afraid I took after my dad!)

    1. You’re oh, so right, Christine. Both George and Harry are doing themselves proud as they get older. And a tip ‘o the hat to your mother! You go, Mom! Wouldn’t it be nice if we could choose which genes we inherit and which we could just let drop by the wayside! Thanks for responding, Christine. Hope you have a wonderful 2014!

And these men seem to be letting their hair go to whatever natural color it may be at their time of life! We women can get away with coloring our hair and looking fabulous. Not so much our men.

    1. An excellent point, Juanita. Thanks for making it!

I think George Clooney has just gotten better and better with age.

    1. Can’t argue with you there, Suekey12. Thanks for chiming in!

I believe as actors age they become more comfortable in their own skin. They don’t have to prove themselves as often, and confidence is very attractive. I also think we age right along with them and older confident men become more appealing to us. lol

I hope I don’t sound arrogant, but I think I have aged nicely, too. At least I feel better than ever about myself, although my body masses increased. In the course of the years I have learned to stay positive, to look for solutions in problems, to be able to accept all changes in life and to see the best in every person. This positive attitude seems to be obvious in my face.
And to the discussion above, I think women as well as men don’t need any beautification from outside. If we work on our inner values, we’ll be attractive at any age.
