Summer is officially here!
This summer is different for me because I am spending it writing or should be.
I’ve officially started my journey of writing full-time! I wish I could say my fingers have been busy, tapping out my next story.
I have a several stories outlined that need to be finished, as well as edits on a book I published last year that I don’t recall much of.
So much of last year was a blur,
I would have expected that being home full-time to write would mean I would spend all my time writing….I had a plan, a really good plan, but then life got in the way again.
What do I mean? Well imagine sitting down at your writing space when your husband walks in and asks you to go on an impromptu date. I could have said no I have a story that I need to work on, these characters won’t leave me alone. That’s not how it went down. As we sat enjoying our meal he suggested that he redo my office space to make it more conducive for writing, and less of a guest room. That was the end of April and it’s now June.
Yes the paint is up on the walls and I have my new laptop, but the writing didn’t start. I worked on other things at home I felt I neglected doing and since the new paint color is so great we took on the project of painting the rest of the house. I know, what was I thinking?
I came up with a month long giveaway on my Facebook page to find homes for all the signed books that have been in my office. If you haven’t already check it out here.
I shouldn’t complain, being at home has been a blessing and I’ve been able to do things we hadn’t had time for like taking a honeymoon. We spent a beautiful week in Jamaica at the Couples resort.
I got home and called a friend who is an author about my writing issue and she laughed at me. “Good Luck” was the phrase she used before explaining it took her a few months to get into a schedule that worked and even now her husband will need her to do errands because ‘she’s home all day’.
I decided to give myself a break and not concentrate on the number of words, but the act of writing itself. I started into a groove when an opportunity I couldn’t pass up happened. I had a fun filled girls getaway with Kathryn Falk and Lasheera Lee.
We tested out the several restaurants for RT17, talked books, and history.
I worked on my next story!!
What’s exciting about this project is that I’ve taken character advice from Kathryn Falk.
As the book develops I’m loving these characters and can’t wait to tell you more about them in the next newsletter.
The lesson I learned is flexibility. You need a schedule true, but you have to take time to enjoy life and the people that are in it.
Till next time!
Xoxo
