A Love Letter to Romance Novels with THREE SIMPLE WORDS

 by A.J. Pine

Two and a half years after my first book was published, I’m about to release book number eight, THREE SIMPLE WORDS (10-17-16). All of my books are my little special snowflakes, and sending them out into the world is, each time, bittersweet. Because once release day comes, the book is no longer mine. It’s yours. It’s everyone’s. The ownership transfers from me to you, and it’s the most amazing thing to sit back and watch (with zero anxiety or fear or that voice in my head screaming Please like my words!) readers react. Because what I want more than anything is to make readers fall in love—not just with my books but with my characters, living vicariously through them to experience that pivotal moment when they realize, “Oh. My. God. I’m in love!” Because if the covers didn’t give it away, folks…I write romance.  I love love.

It took me eight stories to do it, but finally, in the characters of Annie and Wes (a bookshop owner/romance blogger and a bestselling author who doesn’t believe in…gasp…the HEA), I was able to finally write my love letter to the romance novel itself. Because through Annie and Wes’s story, readers get to see that the HEA is just the beginning. Wes, surprisingly, teaches Annie that.

So without further ado, here are Annie Denning’s top five reasons why she hates Wes’s best seller and why she certainly cannot date him—solidifying why it is against her very nature to fall for him. Yet, this book is a romance, so you know what’s bound to happen.

  1. A romance requires a happy ever after OR a happy for now. Not only does Wes Hartley’s DOWN THIS ROAD end with no HEA, he doesn’t believe they exist. At all. In real life or in books.
  2. Wes’s author photo at the back of his book. It’s a cartoon caricature. And that bio? Please. He’s gotta be the most pretentious guy alive.
  3. Wes is my brother Jeremy’s best friend from high school. The whole thing is just—awkward.
  4. Ever since Wes came back to town, we bump into his exes—better known as his research subjects for his novel—everywhere we seem to go.
  5. Now he’s writing a new book, and he says I’m his muse. And he’s inspiring me to want things from him I shouldn’t—like something beyond our secret, no-strings fun. Because falling for a guy who doesn’t believe that love can conquer all? Where’s the happy ever after in that?

THREE SIMPLE WORDS releases on 10-17-16.

Annie
I know where to find my happily ever after—between the pages of a romance novel. It’s why I sell books, why I blog about them, and why I’ll never get disappointed by love.

So what if my brother’s best friend from high school is now a bestselling author? Or that he just blew back into town on a Harley, filling out a pair of jeans like he never did before? Or that he’s agreed to do a signing at my bookstore on such short notice? Because despite all his adoring female fans, I kind of hated his book.

Wes
The last time I saw Annie Denning, she was a senior in high school, three years older than me and way out of my league. Now I’m her last-minute date to a wedding, and what started as a night of pure fun has turned into something more real than either of us anticipated.

Annie is my muse. When I’m with her, my writer’s block fades away, and the words finally flow.

The only problem? She wants the fairy tale—her very own happily ever after—and anyone who’s read my book knows the truth. I just don’t believe they exist.

Each book in the Kingston Ale House series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.
Series Order:

AJ Pine writes stories to break readers' hearts, but don't worry---she'll mend them with a happily ever after. As an English teacher and a librarian, AJ has always surrounded herself with books. All her favorites have one big commonality---romance. Naturally, her books have the same. When she's not writing, she's of course reading. Then there's online shopping (everything from groceries to shoes) and a tiny bit of TV where she nourishes her undying love of vampires and superheroes. You'll also find her hanging with her family in the Chicago 'burbs'.
