4 Romantic Suspense Series You Should Be Reading

I really enjoy watching the hero and heroine solve a mystery and fight for their lives as they battle the bad guys in a romantic suspense. It’s the perfect combination of my two favorite genres—romance and mystery/thrillers.

A good romantic suspense novel will make you nervous while eagerly flipping through the pages, all while giving you the right dose of romance and drama with some badass characters. These books will turn you into an FBI agent or assassin and keep you on the edge of your seat as you fall in love with a few unforgettable characters.

If all of that sounds good to you, I’ve listed four series below that deliver all of the above, so you definitely want to check them out.

The Cordoba Agency series by Delaney Diamond

I might be a little biased, but my romantic suspense series will take you on a wild ride with different agents, all of whom used to work for a secret government agency called Plan B that trained them to be lethal fighters. These men and women are spies and assassins with unique skillsets they use to keep the United States safe from domestic and foreign threats. My latest is Almost Perfect, book 4, which finds our operative in Paris and working with a lady cat burglar.

A cat burglar and an assassin run for their lives across Paris—and try not to get distracted by the sizzling attraction between them.

Assistant antique dealer by day, cat burglar by night, Sable Devereaux has lived in the shadows for years. With one final heist, she can walk away from a life of crime and open her own antique store, retiring to the quiet existence she has always dreamed of. But during her last theft, she witnesses a murder and goes on the run to escape the cross-hairs of some very powerful people.

Agent and master-of-disguise, Hunter Mitchell is intrigued when he has to subdue the sexy thief after she breaks into his Parisian apartment. Then he quickly learns he must protect her—and himself—from an organization hiding much more than a murder.

The couple races across Paris in a fight to stay alive and stop one of the most powerful organizations in the world—and discover what they’ve been looking for all along… is each other.

Atlanta’s Finest by Sharon C. Cooper

Atlanta’s Finest is a series by romantic suspense author Sharon C. Cooper. These men work for Supreme Security and have law enforcement and military backgrounds, and they don’t hesitate to put their hearts—and lives—on the line. Sharon’s latest release is Tempted, book 7.

Temptation has a way of complicating things…

Detective Ashton Chambers is ready to quit the police force, but he won’t until he puts the man responsible for his sister’s murder behind bars. No easy task. In fact, the mission is proving to be almost impossible. Though his day job stresses him out, his social life has taken a turn for the better thanks to a sassy bar owner, Dani Eubanks.

After two broken engagements, Dani is not looking for a happily-ever-after. She tried. Twice. Failed. Twice. Won’t try again. She can’t rely on her judgment, and no way will she allow her heart to get crushed a third time. But Ashton is irresistible, and when a dangerous turn of events puts her in the crosshairs of an international gun trafficker, Ashton is the only one she trusts with her life…and her heart.

Fugitive Heroes: Topaz Unit by Juno Rushdan

I recently discovered Juno Rushdan and have been slowly going through her backlist. I suggest you start with the action-packed stories from the Fugitive Heroes: Topaz Unit series, with a team of operatives accused of treason against the United States government. Her latest is An Operative’s Last Stand, book 4.

A kill squad is closing in…

Now this team leader must risk everything for answers.

Barely escaping CIA mercenaries, ex-agent Hunter Wright is after the person he thinks targeted his ops team, Topaz, for treason. Deputy director Kelly Russell is still the one woman he can’t resist, but she believes Hunter went rogue. Now she’s his only shot at getting the answers they need. Can they trust each other enough to save Topaz—and each other?

The Gems & Gents by Iris Bolling

This long-running series is all about the Lassiter family, comprised of six women and six men. Secrets, lies, kidnapping, and much more can be found in the pages of this series, but the Lassiters are willing and able to stave off anything that comes their way. The latest book in the series is The Book of Luke: Earthquake, book 11.

The life of his family…his future…his everything is in her hands…the hands of a stranger.

The world knows Luke Lassiter as Earthquake, all-star pro wide receiver. A powerhouse both on the field and between the sheets, Luke leaves women in a frenzy just for a taste of the sexy Lassiter. Little does anyone know he has an intimate relationship with the United States government as a classified secret weapon.

Sasha Coles lived a simple life. In the blink of an eye that all changed for the United Nations translator. Family ties she thought were permanently severed surface. Sasha finds herself whisked into a life brimming with fast-paced action, suspense, and the threat on her emotions when she meets the irresistible Luke Lassiter.

The attraction between the two is immediate and addictive as Luke discovers an uninhibited woman who needs the love of family. Sasha sees a man with layers no one has dared to unearth and wonders what will be uncovered if she digs deeper.

Luke needs her special skills to protect his family. Sasha needs his love to accept her family. Will the family ties bond them together or will the danger separate them forever?

    I love the building tension.

    1. Yes! Tension keeps you engrossed in the story.

  2. Vicki says:

I like the anticipation… both of the romance (since usually they are kind of slower paced ones) and of the mystery or case, etc that is going on. You can get that same sort of on-the-edge feeling that you do in a suspenseful movie and I like that a lot.

    1. Anticipation keeps you turning the pages because you want to see what will happen next.

  3. Rachel Raonaid says:

I like the build-up suspense and tension. It adds another element to the romance building between the characters.

    1. Another vote for tension! I think you’re right, that the added suspense just adds another element to the romance building. You can really see why the characters work as a couple when they’re caught up in the suspense portions of the novel.

Easy – at the same time, I like the mystery or action that’s in it… and the sex! 🙂 (and the falling in love at the same time it’s all going on, of course!)

  8. Ruby P. says:

I love it has the best of both worlds. Romance for the love aspect and suspense for the excitement that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

    the action
