For years I wanted to write stories about young women struggling for a second chance in a small mid-western town. I knew this was not a popular genre and I stood the chance that no one would ever read the pages, or appreciate the stories, but I had to try.
There is much of my past in Women of Courage. The town, even though it has a fictional name, is a combination of where I grew up and where my great-grandmother lived. We were less than twenty miles apart.
I loved and admired my great-grandmother for all she accomplished in her life and all those she touched during her time on earth. She was a Christian woman who raised five children, lived to be over a hundred, and was well respected in her community.
I waited as long as I could, then one day I took to my computer and started pounding out the story. It was hard work at first, and it didn’t take long for doubt to set in, but I forged on, knowing I had to tell these stories because the characters refused to leave me alone.
Soon, I found it comforting to fall back to 1947, in Gibbs City, Missouri. I loved the downhome, heartwarming lifestyle and the slang I grew up listening to. While I’m not writing from memory, lol, things didn’t change quickly in small towns back then.
Many of the things you’ll read about in Love Released, the first story in Women of Courage, actually did happen, however, most didn’t. This is not a true story by any stretch of the imagination. It’s fiction with a touch of Mayberry morality.
Thousands have read the books, and I’ve heard from many about how they love the world I’ve created. Fans particularly love the characters and the trials they endure to find happiness. It might come as a big surprise that I knew most of the residents of Gibbs City growing up. Yes, many of those people waltzed in and out of my life as real people.
I hope you’ll give Women of Courage a chance and try the first episode in the series that is free. It’s a delightful read that’s sure to take you back to a time many of us can relate to.
Also, the second story, Love Renewed is out with its first three installments. All of your favorite characters are back and more alive than ever. At the moment, I’m deep into Episode Four and hope to have it ready next month. Love Renewed will be either five or six episodes. Wherever the stories takes me.
Happy Endings,
Geri Foster
