Water of Love

My new release next week, SEAL Of Time, part of the Trident Legacy duet with Kathryn LeVeque, is about a hero who is a son of Poseidon. I had a great time with all the water images that came to mind as I was writing this novella.

The fact that Tay Demmett is a Navy SEAL, a medic, with special powers from his father, is perfect as a cover for this immortal hero. He has to be comfortable in the water as a SEAL, but hides the fact that he can travel at near supersonic speeds.

And what fun it was to write the underwater sex scene with his heroine, who, of course, is a human.

I loved the images of water being relentless, working its way into cracks and fissures of the earth. In this case, Tay’s mother being mortal, is symbolized by the earth goddess image. Water wears away earth, transforms the landscape, gives and takes from her. The earth, on the other hand, holds and restrains water. She becomes the passage the water travels through, the vessel.

I don’t often get these sorts of images when I write, since I don’t write straight fantasy, but doing my first paranormal SEAL, I loved how this theme worked well. Our heroes often are attracted to that which they cannot have sometimes, until they transform and become worthy. The partnership of water and earth goes back in history to a time even before there was romance!
