The Writing Process

by Megan Erickson –

Changing His GameSo I draft every book differently. I wish I had a set system because I think it would make things easier on myself, but alas, that is not the case. With CHANGING HIS GAME, I wrote the first three chapters basically blind. As in, I had no idea how the story would go. I had no idea what the Black Moment would be (where the couple has to overcome an obstacle so they can be together). I didn’t know much of anything except that I had the idea for a couple of scenes and the characters were begging me to write it. And so I did.

And then Entangled said they wanted to publish it, which was awesome, but then it was scramble time. Fortunately, these characters were still speaking to me, so they help me figure it out.

It’s an interesting set up to write a book like this. The sex is prominent and comes first, where as the emotions come second. So I had a fun time throwing them together in passion and then letting them figure out what else they liked about each other.

Turns out, Marley and Austin like a whole heck of a lot about each other and the scene where they “make up” might be my favorite make up scene of all time.

What are some of your favorite romance make up scenes?

Changing His Game by Megan Erickson

Release date: 4/28/15

Marley Lake is no stranger to awkwardness, but getting caught watching a dirty GIF by the company’s hot new IT guy exceeds even her standards. That is, until she realizes he’s as turned on by it as she is. But with a big promotion on the line, she refuses to let her current dry spell be her downfall. Maybe.

Austin Rivers has no business lusting after the irresistible editor of Gamers Magazine. He’s a secret partner in the business—and technically Marley’s boss. One look at that GIF, though, and he’s ready to install a whole lot more than just software…as long as she never finds out who he really is.

But reality’s not as virtual as it seems, and when Austin’s identity jeopardizes Marley’s promotion, he has to change his game or risk losing the only woman with the cheat code to his heart.

My first stories written in crayon-scrawl on loose-leaf notebook paper were about my childhood pet — a deaf cat with dandruff. And after covering real-life dramas as a journalist, I decided I liked writing my own endings better and switched to fiction. My romance novels full of humor and heart are a far cry from those early scribblings about my hygiene-deficient pet.

I live in southern Pennsylvania, with my husband, two kids and two cats. I like a good pint of beer, a greasy bacon cheeseburger, homemade mac and cheese, and a great book with a happily ever after. When I’m not tapping away on my laptop, I’m probably listening to the characters in my head who just. Won’t. Shut. Up.
