I love animals, especially dogs. I grew up with small dogs-poodles, Pomeranians, Yorkshire Terriers. We had a few cats too. But when I got older and moved out on my own I was amazed at how much I loved bigger breeds. My husband introduced me to Chocolate Labrador Retrievers, and we got our first lab. We named her Mocha. She had ten pups of her own and they all went to loving families at eight weeks old. Except for one we held onto to keep momma Mocha company. We named her Java.
Mocha lived for eleven years and when she passed away Java was inconsolable. She missed her mom so much. So we got her a companion – Annabella, an eight-week old Chocolate Lab. Java never seemed to bond with Annabella. We surmised Java found little Annabella to be an irritating intruder. Annabella was a typical rabble-rousing puppy who wanted to play all the time. We thought perhaps we should have gotten a companion for Java before her mom passed away. Java was getting up there in years and missed her mom too much. She followed in her momma’s footsteps and passed away at eleven years of age as well, leaving Annabella all alone.
At two years old, Annabella had a litter of puppies which included her son Jack, who we kept. And now, Annabella is our first lab to make it to twelve years old. Yay! And her son Jack is ten. We know the day is coming when our Annabella will pass over that Rainbow Bridge so we thought we’d do something different this time. We decided to get a companion for Jack before his momma passes away.
Hence the photos I’ve been posting on my Author Facebook page of the upcoming addition to our family, whom we haven’t named yet. I have no idea what her name should be but I’m open to suggestions. Here are a few photos of my current canine family. There’s Annabella, Jack, then the unnamed litter of puppies which includes-somewhere in that pile-our newest family member – X.
Any ideas on a name?
