Have You Stepped Outside Your Comfort Zone Lately?

Winning LoveHello everyone! I’m Abby Niles. My book, WINNING LOVE, released last week with Entangled Select. The theme throughout the book is how two people deal with loss in two completely different ways. My hero, Mac “The Snake” Hannon, has closed himself off from the world. He beats the crap out of his opponents in the cage and then goes home. He prefers solitude and has no interest in making any type of attachment to another human being.

Gayle Matthews lives by the motto: You Only Live Once. She embraces life to the fullest and doesn’t back away from anything. When she meets Mac, she makes it her mission to bring the grumpy man back into the land of the living. The way she does that is by speaking to the competitive side of this extreme fighter.

Let’s play a game, she’d said.

He didn’t think he wanted to play games with Gayle Matthews. Something told him she was a master gamesman and he was going to end up on the losing side every time.

And he didn’t like to lose.

That thought doesn’t stop him from taking the bait each and every time though. The challenges Gayle tosses at him are comical and so far outside Mac’s very small comfort zone there is nothing he can do but start to have fun again.

I tend to lean more to how Gayle approaches life. I’m always up for a new adventure and I don’t take myself too seriously during these adventures. However, I do have my comfort zones. I’m getting ready to do a very Mac thing and step far outside mine this weekend.

What is it, you ask? I’m doing a panel at a book festival.

But you’re an author how can that be outside your comfort zone, you ask? I am an author, but I’ve never done one.

Why? A few reasons really. One being I’m a single mom and traveling is difficult. The other being I struggle with being the center of attention. It freaks me out. I have some very extroverted characteristics, but can also be extremely introverted. Public appearances sets off my introverted traits. But I’m doing it and I know I’m going to end up having a blast. I just have to shove myself outside that comfort zone and embrace the moment.

Have you recently went outside your comfort zone?

Thanks for stopping by!

Abby Niles

Ever since Abby Niles picked up her first Sweet Valley High book in sixth grade and fell in love with Elizabeth and Todd, she’s been hooked on romance. By the time she reached high school, she was devouring meatier romances with pirates, cowboys and knights. She never imagined that those years of reading would one day lead to becoming a published author. In her late twenties, after having twins and becoming a stay-at-home mom, she started doodling stories to keep her sanity. Next thing she knew, she was actually submitting to publishing houses. And was immediately rejected. That didn’t stop her though. She found some kickass critique partners, honed her craft, and continued submitting. And eventually sold. Today, she is a full-time writer and lives with her two kids in North Carolina. Abby is the author of the contemporary MMA romance series Love to the Extreme. The first two books, Extreme Love and Fighting Love, released in 2013. The third book, Winning Love, will release on August 26th, 2014. She is also the author of the dark paranormal romance series The Awakening: Aidan, The Awakening: Liam, and The Awakening: Britton. Both series are with Entangled Publishing. Defying Convention, with Carina Press, is a geeky romantic comedy held at a Sci-fi convention, where Live Action Role Players (LARPers) set out to teach their favorite author a lesson. She is represented by Maureen Walters at Curtis Brown, LTD. You can find Abby on Facebook and Twitter.
