Why I Love to Write a Series

by Cari Quinn

No Promises RequiredI’m so excited to be here at Writerspace today, especially since I’m here to talk about writing a series. My latest release, NO PROMISES REQUIRED, is book 4 in the Love Required series, and it’s a series I never intended to write. No, really! Three years ago this month I submitted NO DRESS REQUIRED, book 1, to an editor at Entangled and luckily for me, she liked the story about Nellie, who fell in love with her best friend’s brother, Jake. At that point, I intended it to just be a short one-off New Year’s novella, because I really enjoy writing holiday stories.

The next thing I knew, my book was doing astonishingly well and we realized that readers were enjoying this world that I’d created in Haven, Pennsylvania. So then we set about expanding my one book into a series. I had introduced Jake’s sister in NO DRESS REQUIRED, and it soon became apparent that Alexa deserved a story of her own. From there, the second book in the series, NO FLOWERS REQUIRED, was born.

Now I’m releasing the fourth book with plans for a fifth in the works. Am I crazy? Well, maybe a little. But I really have fun creating a world of connected characters. One of my favorite TV shows is the classic sitcom “Friends”, and I think it’s because I always enjoy seeing an ensemble cast bounce off of each other. You find out things about characters from their friends and families that they may not even know themselves, and half the pleasure of that is watching the journey to get there. If it includes plenty of jokes like “Friends”, even better!

Now it’s your turn. Do you prefer book in a series or stand-alone books? Why or why not?

Thanks so much for spending some time with me today!

NO PROMISES REQUIRED

No strings. And no restraints…

Professional football player Bryan Townsend is sidelined for the next two weeks while he recovers from a knee injury. The upside? He’ll get to attend his sister’s wedding. The downside? He’s not sure he’ll have a spot on his team when he returns. So when he’s confronted by a sexy blast from his past the night of the bachelor party, he sees an opportunity to seduce the very stunning maid of honor.

But Bryan had no clue Jill St. John was still a virgin. Or that she was merely looking to expand her sexual repertoire without having to trust anyone with her heart. But with every encounter, Jill can’t help but fall for the man Bryan’s become. The clock is running down. If he’s to win it all, Bryan must make the biggest play of his career—choosing between his team…or the woman he’s always wanted.
