Long-lost Reunions

by Elizabeth Otto

Can't Resist A CowboyI love a good reunion story. As a former Navy wife, who spent months upon months waiting for her spouse to return from deployment, I suppose this isn’t surprising. I’d count the days on a calendar, marking off each one until finally, six long months had passed and I’d be on the Norfolk pier, holding a sign and welcoming my sailor home.

Those reunions were always so happy and… normal.

In my latest release, CAN’T RESIST A COWBOY, the third book in the Paint River Ranch series, Levi and Carrie Lynn are reunited after six year apart. But, their first meeting doesn’t start out so well—Carrie is about to get run over by a horse, while holding a chicken. In a bar. Definitely not normal!

A dose of humor can help diffuse the high emotions of a long-lost reunion, both in books and in real life. Like the time my skirt flipped up Marilyn Monroe style while I stood on the pier, holding my sign and waiting for my husband to disembark, while hundreds of sailor eyes looked down on me from the deck of the ship.

I guess that’s one way to say welcome home!

I always try and inject a little lightness in emotional situations when I’m writing, so don’t be surprised when you find a little quirkiness when reading CAN’T RESIST A COWBOY, and few tears, too.

It’s a marine coming home to the woman he let go, but never stopped loving. Tears are a given.

Just like in real life!

CAN’T RESIST A COWBOY
Release date: 5/12/15

Injured and discharged, Marine Levi Haywood has returned to his family’s ranch in order to heal and start a new life. After all, once a cowboy, always a cowboy. The only problem? Life at the ranch has moved on since he joined the service, and suddenly his role is much less clear. And things get a lot more confusing when his childhood sweetheart shows up.

Carrie Lynn Waite has never known a time when she didn’t love Levi. They were childhood sweethearts, but because of her illness, she was forced to move to the city, away from the ranching life. Now Carrie’s come home only to learn her family’s ranch is in trouble and Levi is back, along with an undeniable attraction she can’t resist. But some things never change. Now Carrie must decide between her future…and the cowboy she could never resist.

Elizabeth Otto

Elizabeth Otto grew up in a Wisconsin town the size of a postage stamp, where riding your horse to the grocery store, and skinny dipping after school were perfectly acceptable. No surprise that she often writes about small communities and country boys. She's the author of paranormal and hot, emotional, contemporary romance, and has no guilt over frequently making her readers cry. When not writing, she works full-time as an Emergency Medical Technician for a rural ambulance service. Elizabeth lives with her very own country boy and their three children in, shockingly, a small Midwestern town.
