Greetings! How do we tell others to find peace at this time of year set aside for good wishes and lofty sentiments? I will do my best to send you my hopes for all. No matter what we face, good times or hardships, we do live in the most generous country in the world where people consistently show their care for each other. It is all about people loving--as best they can--other people. Without love we are lost. Without hope we are lost. I wish you love and I wish you hope--and always, peace. I wish you open eyes to see the best around us, open minds to search out the positive, and the courage to let those around you know that they matter to you. I wish you opportunities to mend old hurts and estrangements. Most of all, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New Year. God bless us all, whatever our beliefs, and help us to be the best we can be even when we mess up--and we will!

The holiday season gets so busy for me that sometimes I find I need to take a few moments of quiet so I can hear what I really want to hear. Instead of focusing on ads to buy, buy, buy, I'd rather hear the beautiful music of the season, the sound of my loved ones voices and maybe the sound of someone who needs a little help. Yes, Virginia, there is writer named Jill Barnett...and she is still writing. I never stopped. In fact, I have three new historical romances coming out in late 2010 and 2011 along with a new, completely revamped website here which should be up before summer. Writing these new stories has been a joy and a trial, since my characters seem to have their own ideas about what they will and will not do. But then my characters have always been difficult to tame. The books are set in medieval Scotland, about three sisters, and the men whose hearts they capture—a knight driven by revenge, the son of an earl who makes a huge and hurtful mistake and must prove his love is true, and a grizzled knight whose heart has never known a gentle love. (The photo at the right is from the first book.) These will be the first of many new stories to come from my pen.
But back to Christmas...I have posted a family photo, my daughter and me goofing off before the camera one Christmas. Our holidays are filled with this kind of laughter. Our gifts to each other are hours and days and nights of family time, dinners out or chili by the fire, going to the movies or having game and puzzle nights, making everything from cookies to lobster, gifts and stockings, and singing carols—my daughter in beautiful vocal tune and me, not so much—and always it seems, we are wiping glitter from our noses.
So I wish for you all a glorious Christmas and holiday season, filled with laughter and family, joyous hearts and lots of love, time together, and perhaps, just for fun, a little glitter on your nose.

This is bittersweet holiday for me, but mostly sweet. My youngest daughter is getting married in the summer and this is her last year decorating our home for Christmas (a job she commandeered a few years ago when my enthusiasm for my usual gala of decorations waned in the face of end of the year writing deadlines). She roped her dad and fiance into helping and they spent three days turning our home into a Christmas wonderland. She's decided to go with a Nutcracker theme this year around my collection of them, but she's incorprating other aspects of the ballet and I've got glittery snowflakes and sugar fairies dangling from my ceilings. It's really lovely and every time I walk into one of the main rooms decorated so cheerfully I am reminded how very blessed I am by my family. I've written several holiday themed books because I love this time of year and am doing my usual 12 Days of Christmas giveaway on my blog to celebrate with my readers.
