What are Your Favorite Sayings or Pieces of Advice?

Advice Help Support And Tips Signpost Showing Information And GuidanceOn the Emmy Awards last night there were several segments showing short clips of actors recounting the best direction they’d received from individuals who’d been nominated for Best Director.

Naturally, being actors, some of them went for laughs. Some were straight up. Sadly, I couldn’t recount any of them right now, but the concept did make me think, which is a phenomenon I always appreciate when it’s time for me to write another blog.

What, I wondered, would I classify as the best, funniest or most thought-provoking advice I’ve heard or received?

Surprisingly little sprang to mind, which should come as no surprise to anyone since my memory’s been on vacation for several years now.

However, after shaking all the brain cells I could find and loudly insisting it was time for ‘em to wake up, I did remember one of my mom’s favorites:

Money cannot buy happiness. It really can’t. However, it will pay the cab fare while you look for it.

Hard to argue with that, isn’t it.

My mother knew without question that true happiness lies with things that exist outside the material world. But she was also a very practical person. She realized you have to live in this world and there are costs associated with doing so.

So she always wanted me to remember that money would be necessary for me to exist, but that I’d need something beyond it to fully enjoy my life.
