Does Summer Love Make for Good Reading?

Writerspace - Let's Talk Books icon.inddSummer Love is always its own special kind of love. Love that often has as much to do with being away from home as it does with handsome strangers.

It might be love set in a mountain setting.

Or, on a beach.

It might be love based on a mutual summer passion (think sailing or snorkeling or canoeing).

Or, on unexpected proximity.

Whichever or wherever it happens, it is usually a love to remember, even if it rarely lasts past the dog days of August.

There is no doubt everyone deserves at least one great Summer Love, but for readers maybe a more important question is:  Does Summer Love make for good summer reading?  Hmmmm.

Summer Love (002)Novelist Jenny Han (We’ll Always have Summer, It’s Not Summer Without You) and Michelle Dalton (Sixteenth Summer), would probably argue it does, having both done a series on the subject.

And #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Robyn Carr certainly made it sound good in A Summer In Sonoma, as did #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Linda Lael Miller in Big Sky Summer (Book 4 in her Parable, Montana, Series) and #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Susan Wiggs in Summer by the Sea and A Summer Affair (Book 5 in her Calhoun Chronicles Series).

Heck, even historical romance maven Mary Balogh tucked A Summer to Remember into her Bedwyn Saga Series, proving at least to this writer that Summer Love has always been a thing . . . maybe just enjoyed in bloomers instead of bikinis.

So how about you? When the temperature starts to rise and the mountains or beach begin to call, is there a special Summer Love that you recall fondly?
