COUNTING ON A COWBOY

Counting on a CowboyThank you so much for having me on the blog today to talk about my newest release COUNTING ON A COWBOY, Book 2 of my Four of Hearts Ranch Romance Series.

I love cowboys and nothing is more fun to me than taking a calm, cool and collected Texas cowboy and throwing him off kilter! I knew in Book 1,  BETTING ON HOPE, that I was going to really play with happy go lucky Bo in Book 2 and I had the most fun coming up with exactly how to do that. So I thought I’d share with you two quick scenes from the beginning of the book. Scene 1 – meet Bo easily in control… Scene 2 – meet Bo not so in control. (grin) I just loved creating this book.

Scene 1 – Cool Headed Cowboy:

“Holy Toledo!” Abby shrieked, yanking the wheel with all her strength, only to realize she was now heading straight toward a cowboy standing in her high beams.

Time slowed as she hit the brakes: he stood like a Western movie legend come to life. His brows dipped, his jaw tensed, his eyes connected with hers through the windshield as time stopped in that split second it took her to register the danger.

She cranked down hard on the wheel as flashbacks of another wreck crashed over.

She managed to swerve, sending her car careening into the ditch, across the rough ground, then through the barbed wire fence. On impact with the fence poles, the car’s airbags exploded— smacking Abby like a hard right hook to the face. Stars filled the sudden, brief blackness. Face throbbing, Abby fought off passing out—had she missed him? Had she run him down? Dazed and scared, Abby struggled with her seatbelt and almost had it off when her door flew open.

“Are you okay?” the very much alive cowboy asked, his voice gruff.

“Yes. Are you? Did I hit you?” Relief surged through her so strong she barely felt the pain of her face from the impact of the air bag. No sooner had the relief hit her, then anger, then the familiar panic sent her clawing to get out of this car.

“What were you thinking?” she demanded, pushing him back so she could escape the confines of the car. Surprise froze his expression as he backed up. She glared at him. “I could have killed you! Just what were you doing standing in the dark out here in the middle of nowhere? Have you gone crazy?”

He blinked in obvious surprise at her attitude, then a slow grin built until it caused a deep dimple to appear beside lips that suddenly had her gaze glued.

“Now calm down,” he said in an easy drawl that caused her pulse to skitter unexpectedly. “I’m okay and you’re okay, so no need to be upset.

Scene 2 – Not So Cool Headed Cowboy:

“My baby.” Bo took a step back. “No, Pops, not mine. What’s he doing here?” He glanced around as the baby continued to wail.

“He’s crying,” Abby blurted, still hanging back from the porch. Bo thought she looked like she was fighting the urge to run back to the truck. Where had this baby come from? Who would have done this?

“I, I don’t know what to do with a baby. I’ve never been around them. What do I do?”

She waved her hand at the baby. “Pick him up,” she urged.

“Me?” He glared at her in horror. “How? It’s not like he’s a steer.”

She glared right back at him and pointed. “Put your hands under his armpits and lift. It’s easy. He’s your baby.”

“He’s not my baby.” The baby turned about as red as an over-ripe plum with his next holler. “How can something that little make a noise like that?” Bo stepped in and clumsily took hold of the baby just like Abby told him. He wrapped both his hands around the little fella’s chest and hauled him out of the playpen. “Now what?” As Bo held the boy in midair, the baby let out a piercing scream…

Thanks for letting me drop by. I hope you’ll pick up a copy of COUNTING ON A COWBOY and get to know Bo and Abby and take their journey to romance with them and the good people of Wishing Springs.
