Loner P.I. Sam Lassiter easily found the nanny who'd allegedly kidnapped her young charge.
But Laurel Coleman was far from the dangerous, deceptive woman his client — the boy's father — had warned him about. Her arms held the boy lovingly and she begged Sam to believe her innocence. The trust in her eyes, the naiveté in her kiss pulled Sam into a vortex of emotion. Emotion he couldn't allow, with the gun-toting client on their heels. Sam had no choice but to take Laurel and the boy on the run again. Except this time the tempting woman and child would make him face his deadliest enemy of all….
Sara - welcome, our guests tonight are Susan Kearney and Rebecca York, two fabulous authors with Harlequin Intrigue. We are operating under protocol so type a to be put in line and I will call on you in turn. Oliveria - I sorry to hear that Rosedust Cissy - yeah, I want to hear about these books! Sara - but before we get to the QUESTIONS , I would like Rebecca and Susan to tell us about their new books! Rebecca York - Susan, right! I'm just back from a week in Mendocino, California, doing research for an Intrigue. Sara - and cruises are good to hear about as well! Oliveria - ? Oliveria - SusanKearney - Rebecca, You're a guest so you can go first and tell us about your book. Sara - so, Rebecca, want to give it a try? Rebecca York - OK. I'm going to have to tell you about the new book, LASSITER'S LAW, in pieces. Here's the 1st:Sam Lassiter and Laurel Coleman are just the type of hero and heroine I love to write about--wounded people whose love for each other heals them. Rebecca York - Sam lost his wife and child in a horrible automobile accident that comes back to him again and again in his nightmares. To deaden the pain, he turned to drink. He's been on the wagon for over a year, but he still sees himself as damaged. And he's still afraid to let himself love again. Rebecca York - Laurel is coping with her own problems--a painful past that haunts her present. How she comes to trust Sam with her secrets--and to and trust herself--is also central to the story. Rebecca York - Sam is hired to find a missing child--supposedly kidnapped by Laurel. He's got good reason to think her motives are dishonorable. Then, when the real culprit comes after them, Sam is forced to work with Laurel. But trusting her and trusting himself are the hardest things he's ever had to do. Oliveria - That sounds exciting Rebecca York - I had a great time writing it. Sara - it does, doesn't it? Cissy - sounds nice and angsty and suspenseful - best of both worlds Sara - I have a question, but first let's hear from Susan Sara - ? SusanKearney - Okay. But I'm slow because i haven't figured out how to cut and paste. Rebecca York - They're both very damaged people, and it was a challenge making them heroic. Sara - this is the book that finishes the tale, right? Sara - ah, geez, Susan, you should be an old hand by this time Sara - Rebecca did a GREAT job! SusanKearney - Lovers in Hiding is the third book in my Hide and Seek trilogy. When the heroine wakes up on a beach with amnesia, a sexy hero claims to have just saved her life. He claims her brother sent her papers that the bad guys want. Oliveria - Rosedust2 - Yipppeee!!!!! Someone else with the cut and paste problem Rebecca York - Sara, yes LASSITER'S LAW is the 3rd book in a trilogy, but of course you can read them without having read the others. Cissy - oh cool - two trilogy enders SusanKearney - The hero is a CIA agent who is supposed to crack the code in the papers she recieved--but first he must save her life. Sara - oh, then I have another ? SusanKearney - Same for me. Each book in a trilogy must stand alone. Cissy - put yourself in line, Sara! Sara - yes, I didn't know that, Cissy. well, duh! Cissy - yeah, I realize you're new here... SusanKearney - I'm done. I can't really say much more without giving away secrets. Sara - wow, these two books both sound terrific! and to you Cissy! Rebecca York - I have a really neat scene in the book where the bad guy forces the hero to drink a fifth of bourbon. He's planning to make the hero kill the heroine and the child by driving them off a cliff. Sara - okay, then on to the Questions! SusanKearney - Cissy, we forgive Sara since she gives chocolate X-mas presents. Cissy - oh wow, Rebecca! Sara - Oliveria has the first question (Sara, Sara in line) Oliveria - Do you both write under your own name? Cissy - chocolate does cover a multitude of sins... Sara - ah, thank you, Susan. I take all the breaks I can get! SusanKearney - yep Rebecca York - Oliveria, no my real name is Ruth Glick. SusanKearney - I write under my real name. Sara - Oliveria, you have to go check out the details on Rebecca. She also writes cook books, right? Rosedust2 - - from 12.75.141.139 on 12/23 at 9:08pm EST BethS - ? Sara - Sara has the next question (Sara, Beth in line) SusanKearney - Yummy cookborks that are low carb. I even made one of them and ATE the results. gerri - Ohhhh I love cookbooks Rebecca York - Sara, yes I also write cookbooks--13 so far. My husband and I have been on a low-carb diet for 2 years, so my latest book is FABULOUS LO-CARB CUISINE. Oliveria - I will check that out TriceCyn - Evening all thanx sara Sara - well, my first question is to Rebecca -- I hope you can tell us without spoilers, but is your heroine related to the child she is accused of kidnapping? Rebecca York - That's easy--No! Sara - Susan!! did you? all the recipes? and ate the results! I am impressed (cause I can't cook except fatty Amish stuff) SusanKearney - I can't cook at all. Rebecca's cookbook is easy to follow. Oliveria - ? Cissy - ? Sara - ah, Rebecca, that confused me slightly about the summary. Why was she accused? Is that a spoiler? Sara - oh, easy to follow! as in child proof? although my kids can both cook! *sigh* Rebecca York - I should point out that FABULOUS LO-CARB CUISINE is by Ruth Glick--not Rebecca York. But it was published by Light Street Press SusanKearney - My idea of knowing when the food is done is when the smoke detector goes off. Oliveria - lol Cissy - lol, Susan - I like you Oliveria - //fire Rebecca York - You find out early in the book that when she was younger, she was tricked into kidnapping a kid by her low-life boyfriend. She's a convicted felon, so it's easy to believe that she's doing another kidnapping now. gerri - good point Rebecca.....I would of gone looking for Rebecca York Sara - hi, Barbs, we are talking to Rebecca York and Susan Kearney about Intrigues and cooking ! We are on protocol tonight! Oliveria - Sara - ah, thank you, Rebecca. Makes a bit more sense. Sara - Sara has the next question (BethS, Oliveria, Cissy in line) Cissy - oh wow, Rebecca - you don't go easy on your heroines! Sara - and, uh, question numero dos! is for Susan Cissy - you say "dos" I think computers... Sara - LOVERS IN HIDING finishes up this great trilogy -- and yup, I read ALL THREE of them! Great great story. Kept me guessing ALL the way through Oliveria - Sara - ah, sorry, Cissy, I was practising my Spanish SusanKearney - Thanks. Sar. Sara - HOW did you manage that Susan? Sheer talent? keeping us guessing? SusanKearney - Heck, i can't type in English. Rebecca York - Cissy, I make my people suffer so the happy ending is especially happy. SusanKearney - Sara, I usually don't know what is going to come next. So I can surprise myself as well as the reader. Sara - well, you did an excellent job in this Hide and Seek series! I kept guessing WRONG! SusanKearney - I often change who the ultimate villain is halfway throught the book. Sara - and usually I am a good guesser! Sara - hmm, so you changed in this one? SusanKearney - The trick is to give the suspects means, opportunity and motive. R-C - another write by the seat of the pants writer. Rebecca York - I also sometimes change the villain in midstream. It keeps me guessing! Sara - wouldn't that be tough to do in a trilogy? or did you write them all at one time? SusanKearney - When I wrote the third book, I had no idea who the villain was until about the three quarter point. And then it became obvious to me. SusanKearney - RC--I'm guilty. Although I do have a synopsis for each book to start with. Sara - hmm. And Rebecca, you do this too? this write to find the answer? SusanKearney - I write them in order--one at a time. Rebecca is the one who can go from book to book and then back. Sara - I mean, I thought writers were gods! but to find they are as anxious as me to find an ending, well ... Sara - I will have to rethink SusanKearney - Don't think too hard, Sara. Rebecca York - Sara, I find that if I have settled on the villain, I write in a certain way. If I don't know who it is, I can make everybody seem guilty. Actually, what I like to do is point to a particular person as the villain, then kill that person off! Cissy - lol Sara - REBECCA!!!! Cissy - ooh, evil of you, Rebecca! SusanKearney - I like to kill people when I'm in a bad mood. Sara - I would say DEFINITELY evil!! Cissy - Poor character - they're innocent AND you kill them! Sara - oh, dear, Cissy are you scared to meet these ladies too? Cissy - Sara - better send them MORE chocolate! Cissy - nope, Sara - I want to hang out with them! Sara - well, we better get some more questions before my thinking cap explodes Rebecca York - Susan, you're right. I'm presently writing two books. I wrote 260 pages of one, then switched to the other. I'll do about 150 pages of this one, then go back and finish the other. The downtime lets me think about the other plot. Sara - BethS has the next question (Oliveria, Cissy in line) Cissy - btw, Susan, did you cup make it unbroken? I'm hearing that some didn't R-C - I like your style more and more. reduce the number of characters so there will be less to remember SusanKearney - My cup is sitting on my desk. The chocolate is gone. :/ Sara - yes, RC, they seem to like to "lope off their heads" the Red Queen style of business Sara - it was the Red Queen in AIW wasn't it? Sara - Ah, Susan. I didn't get any chocolate. I heard it was good though SusanKearney - Very good. Rebecca York - Right, I love killing people. I'm going to send some off a cliff in a storm in the book I'm writing now. I saw just the right cliff in Mendocino! BethS2 - wow, got bumped! Oliveria - hey welcome back Beth Sara - sorry, Beth. And you are up too! SusanKearney - Oh, killing characters is sooo much fun. It's one of the best parts of writing Intrigues. BethS2 - anyway, my question is about your heroes (love them!). Will you tell us about them? What kind of men are they? Sara - ah, Rebecca, should we be worried? You didn't do too much research at the cliff, did you? Cissy - oh good! Sara - *thinking she WENT with her husband, no mention of him returning from trip* Rebecca York - Don't worry, I brought DH home with me. SusanKearney - My hero in this book sits behind a desk and analyzes code for the CIA. He also is six feet four and rides a motorsysle. But he's a brain. Sara - ah, that's a relief, Rebecca Sara - yeah, he is a hunk on a Harley with a brain! I hear the Harley roar as I read parts of LOVERS IN HIDING Rebecca York - Beth, I like guys who have suffered a lot. Tortured heroes. But the suffering makes them stronger--and sexy. Cissy - six foot four, rides a motorcycle and intelligent?? Where do I sign up for him? Sara - and just a quiver or two SusanKearney - Oh, my, Sar, then i balanced the brain and the body? BethS2 - Tortured heroes are my favs, Rebecca! Sara - but ya don't kill them off, right? just a bit of torture? BethS has timed out. Sara - yes, Susan, you had an EXCELLENT balance!! SusanKearney - Heroes never die. Never. Rebecca York - Beth, Sam Lassiter is hanging on to sanity by his fingernails. Sara - I love the rumble roar of a Harley Cissy - Never ever Oliveria - Where do you live Rebecca and Susan and please don't say Texas SusanKearney - My hero mostly hangs onto the heroine. SusanKearney - Florida Sara - I think Sam sounds good. I have to pick up LASSITER'S LAW now. Geez. Forced to go to the books section on Christmas Eve. What a sacrifice! Rebecca York - Oliveria, I live in Columbia, Maryland. I grew up in Washington, DC. But I have been to Texas. Sara - now, Oliveria, what is WRONG with Texas?? Sara - I LIVE in Texas! BethS2 - that sounds fun too, Susan Sara - we have some great heroes in Texas! Oliveria - Nothing but a lot of authors are from there Rebecca York - I had a great time researching THE MAN FROM TEXAS. We crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico in a rowboat at Santa Helena. Sara - was that your question, Oliveria, or do you have another one? I am being generous tonight Sara - oh, that is true, Oliveria. Lots of authors are from Texas Oliveria - Do you both have website and what are thye Sara - hopefully not during a flood, Rebecca! that would be an adventure! and very dangerous! Cissy - well, it's a big state. Law of averages and all that SusanKearney - I'm at writerspace in 3 places. SusanKearney.com Blazeauthors.com and tara.com. Rebecca York - I have two websites. My Rebecca York website is www.rebeccayork.com . My cookbook website is www.locarbcook.com . Sara - I gotta get my contacts cleaned. I could swear that said BRA.COM!!! SusanKearney - Rebecca and I both write for Intrigue and Blaze. R-C - what would be amazing if that many authors were in Rhone Island Cissy - tara.writerspace.com Sara - don't ask!
