Cissy - Susan and Cassie, we'll wait just a minute to see if Rita makes it before we get started
Mimmi - Hi, Katy...sorry I missed your chat
Carrie - brb I need to tuck in a kid
Mary f - I'm fine mimmi YOU?
SusanKearney - 457? sounds like an airplane
Cissy - she may need to try another browser or check with her ISP, Mary.
Mimmi - Good, just busy for the holidays, LOL, like we all are. Just got back from Christmas play...it was great
O - Are you going to share the pie Robin
Cissy - what play, Mimmi?
RobinDOwens - The pie is GONE!
KatyCooper - No problema, Mimmi! It was fun, but I suspect this will be too.
Mimmi - Christmas play at my little girls school, their rendition of the night Jesus was born. It was great
O -
KatyCooper - Was it the cat, Robin?
RobinDOwens - BRB, I left all my lights on downstairs....
SusanKearney - I'm fasting so I'm glad the pie is gone.
Cissy - //light
Cissy -
CassieMiles - Hi all. Went to get coffee. I think I understand how this works now.
Mary f - Robin Vad says hello
Cissy - fasting at the holidays, Susan??
CassieMiles - Love the icons!
Cissy - Well ladies, shall we go ahead and get started?
Mimmi -
SusanKearney - Yeah, Cissy, it's the pits.
O - sounds good
CassieMiles - Sure
O -
Mary f -
RobinDOwens - Great, Cassie.
RobinDOwens - Well, glad to hear it, Mary. Hey, back to Vad.
Cissy - Welcome everyone to our Harlequin Intrigue chat. We're talking tonight with Susan Kearney and Cassie Miles about their latest releases. We'll be working on protocol, so if you have questions for Susan or Cassie, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Mac -
RobinDOwens - Nope, I ate my piece of pie all by myself.
SusanKearney - Robin, As long as it wasn't chocolate!
Cissy - Susan and Cassie, before we go on to Q&A, will you tell us about your December books?
Cissy - Susan, will you start us off with ROYAL PURSUIT?
RobinDOwens - Marie Callendar's Cherry Crumb
SusanKearney - Cassie, You go first.
CassieMiles - Mine is actually January release. THE SECRET SHE KEEPS. Brief summary: Harlequin Meets the Sopranos.
RobinDOwens - LOL, I'm sure she's typing furiously!
Cissy - Okay then Cassie will you tell us about THE SECRETS SHE KEEPS?
Celeste - Oh lord, I wish I had a Marie Calendar's close by
RobinDOwens - Hi, Gerri!
RobinDOwens - Bought it from the grocery.
gerri - Hi everyone
O - can you mke that a little longert
SusanKearney - ROYAL PURSUIT is the final book in a trilogy. It's about a playboy prince and a PI who must protect him. She poses as his wife and doesn't like to be touched. It's very sexy.
Mary f - Hello Gerri
Celeste - one of their frozen ones, Robin?
SusanKearney - Hi O and Gerri
RobinDOwens - Sounds like excellent sexual tension.
RobinDOwens - Yes, Celeste.
Cissy - well if it's sexy, I'm guessing she gets over that whole "no touching" thing, huh?
Celeste - I just picked ROYAL PURSUIT up at Wal Mart today
Cissy - Cassie, tell us more!
SusanKearney - Robin, Ever since I started writing for Blaze my Intrigues are getting hotter.
KatyCooper - It sounds like it must absolutely crackle with sexual tension.
CassieMiles - Eden Miller lost the man of her dreams. 12 years later, he returns and she learns he was undercover FBI, investigating her family. Framed for a murder, they're on the run from both the Verone family and the FBI who consider Payne (the hero) to be a renegade agent.
SusanKearney - Thanks, Celeste.
Cissy - oh wow, Cassie - sounds suspenseful!
RobinDOwens - Excellent book. I got a few peeks at critique group. The nuns in Cassie's book can't be beat.
Mary f - sounds great Cassie!
CassieMiles - AND I could justify watching the Sopranos as research.
CassieMiles - Heehee on the nuns....shades of my evil past.
Cissy - These both sounds cool! Let's go on to questions. I know you all have some.... Hint, Hint
O - Cassie
RobinDOwens - And there's a child. Right?
Cissy - O has the first question (no one in line)
O - Susan do you have to read the other book first
CassieMiles - Oh right, secret baby. When Eden and Payne separated, she was pregnant. The kid is 11.
SusanKearney - O, Absolutely not. Each book in the series stands alone.
O -
SusanKearney - And if you miss the first ones and want to go back and read, you can pick them up on Amazon.
RobinDOwens - LOL, Susan.
Cissy - And if you read one, you WILL want to go back and read the others!
Cissy - O has the next question (no one in line)
SusanKearney - Cissy ??kiss
SusanKearney -
Mary f - ?
RobinDOwens -
SusanKearney - Sorry, my typing fingers are tired.
O - Cassie what made you write about the mob
KatyCooper - ?
RobinDOwens - Sounds like you worked hard today, Susan.
CassieMiles - Love the whole crime family thing. Ever since the godfather movies. Midnight fantasies about Al Pacino.
Celeste - the disadvantage for a reader with this series, Susan is that with each title having *ROYAL* in it, it's hard to remember if you bought one or not...I ended up buying ROYAL TARGET twice from Wal Mart and they do not allow book returns (DUH on me)
Cissy - poor Susan
SusanKearney - Actually I worked but I'm cross eyed from playing mine sweeper.
RobinDOwens - LOL.
Carrie - ok ib
O - Al Pacino was cute
Mary f - LMAO Susan
Cissy - LOL, Susan! The truth comes out
RobinDOwens - Yes, I have solitare on my handheld and play back and forth on the bus...
SusanKearney - Celeste, Sorry about that. You can give the book away for an x-mas gift bg
CassieMiles - Al is still cute, just short.
SusanKearney - I did not type that twice.
Cissy - Do you go play with a strategy or just click willy-nilly? I'm a willy-nilly person myself
KatyCooper - I think Al Pacino was *beautiful* in the first Godfather.
Carrie - LOL Robin.. I like Minesweeper and battleship on mine
O -
RobinDOwens - Cassie! As if you can talk...
SusanKearney - And I'm addicted to Snood.
Cissy - Mary has the next question (Katy, O in line)
Celeste - that true Susan and at least it's the first book
SusanKearney - And freecell. It's amazing I get any work done.
RobinDOwens - I only have the one game.
CassieMiles - That was a shortness reference. Robin? No height requirements.
Mary f - Susan How many are in the series and do you plan on writing more?
RobinDOwens - Yes, all cats are gray. Have you two seen this one?
CassieMiles - Love the cowboy icon.
SusanKearney - Mary, The series has three and then it's done. My next series has eight books and I'm busy writing those now.
RobinDOwens - Wow! ?
Cissy - 8! Cool
CassieMiles - Eight books? Sounds great. What's the premise?
SusanKearney - I'm getting to do 6 Intrigues and 2 Blazes in a cross line series called Heroes Inc.
KatyCooper - Yowza, Susan!
Mary f - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
RobinDOwens - Excellent!
RobinDOwens - Hi, MegaRead!
Cissy - Hi MegaRead Welcome to our Harlequin Intrigue chat. We're talking tonight with Susan Kearney and Cassie Miles about their latest releases. We'll be working on protocol, so if you have questions for Susan or Cassie, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
SusanKearney - Cassie, The premise is a group of men who are high tech ex-military people who go to extremes to solve cases for the government or rich private clients.
O - you are busy
CassieMiles - Very cool!
Cissy - ooh, Heroes, Inc. - I like it already
KatyCooper - That's very cool (even if it makes my brain cramp just trying to imagine it!)
Cissy - oh wow, Susan - I'm all over that series. Write fast!
MegaRead - Hi, everyone
SusanKearney - Hi Mega
Cissy - Katy has the next question (O in line)
SusanKearney - Yes, but between those books, I'm launching a series in May of 2004 and am doing a special promotion book in Sept.
KatyCooper - The premise sounds tres cool.
RobinDOwens - ?
CassieMiles - You are a busy lady. Kudos!
SusanKearney - The premise gives me freedom to go way out there.
MegaRead - - from 152.163.189.104 on 12/17 at 9:03pm EST
SusanKearney - And I'm writing what I like so it's lots of fun.
Cissy - Katy has the next question (O, Robin in line)
KatyCooper - This question is for both Cassie and Susan--What provokes you to write a particular story? Character ideas? Stories in the news? "What if" brainstorming?
RobinDOwens - wb Mega
MegaRead - Hi, everyone! Im sorry about that. Im new to "chatting" so forgive the mistakes, please.
O - Good question Katy
Cissy - You're fine, Mega. We were all new once
O - another virgin
SusanKearney - I start with plot. Usually a massive problem. Like what happens when a Prince has to run for his life in a strange country. He has no money and no ID. Who can he trust? How will he survive?
Carrie - Welcome Mega... we like Newbies
CassieMiles - Actually, I think it's personal stuff. Cheap therapy. Starting with heroine who has a problem like mine.
SusanKearney - Mega, I always make lots of mistakes.
RobinDOwens - LOL, Cassie!
Cissy - lol, Cassie
CassieMiles - Oh, I'm so glad there's another virgin. Hold me.
SusanKearney - Really Cassie? What kind of problems?
RobinDOwens - Big <<hugs>>
SusanKearney - Cassie, If you weren't a virgin I'd ask Cissy to turn off the protocal but that would be mean.
Carrie - Hi Cassie
Carrie - lol Susan and you are SO nice!
Cissy - lol, Susan - if Cassie's game, I am
MegaRead - Ms. Miles, why "royalty?"
CassieMiles - OK, ready? A bit of seriousness. Last year, lost my mate. Led to books about bringing departed lovers back to life
SusanKearney - Carrie, Trust me--no one has ever called me nice--especially when I'm fasting.
Cissy - In the meantime... O has the next question (Robin in line)
CassieMiles - Hi Carrie.
SusanKearney - Ah, Cassie. Hugs.
KatyCooper - I'm sorry to hear that, Cassie.
O - What Made you both want to write in the first place did you hear voices or movies in your head
Carrie - lol I was TRYING to be polite Susan
CassieMiles - Yeah, life sucks.
O - sorry to hear that
Carrie - ((Cassie))
SusanKearney - I never hear voices in my head. sigh. But I love to read and writing became a natural progression.
RobinDOwens -
CassieMiles - Wanted to write in first place...because there doesn't seem to be anything else I can do competently.
MegaRead - I, too, am sorry to hear that. It's not easy returning to the single state.
RobinDOwens - WRONG!
SusanKearney - Course I had no idea how to write, but I could tell a story. Learning the craft about killed me.
KatyCooper - But books help...
RobinDOwens - You are an excellent teacher, and a wonderful MOM.
CassieMiles - And I love making stuff up.
RobinDOwens - Cassie, taught me craft.
Carrie - that is a comforting thought Susan
SusanKearney - I had no writing background at all.
O -
CassieMiles - Craft is easy. Creativity is hard.
Cissy - Robin has the next question (O in line)
RobinDOwens - Susan, which series are you launching?
SusanKearney - No craft is hard, creativity is easy.
Mary f - ?
SusanKearney - The one truth about writing is that we all do it differently and there is no one right way.
RobinDOwens -
Mac - LOL
SusanKearney - Robin, It's called Shotgun Sally--a three-book Intrigue series that I'm doing with 2 other authors.
RobinDOwens - Great!
CassieMiles - Susan--You nailed it.
Cissy - well that sounds like a fun series!
RobinDOwens - ?
KatyCooper - Robin, that looks like my M.O.
Cissy - O has the next question (Mary, Robin in line)
RobinDOwens - I just lie down and let cats walk on me with extended claws. It's as easy.
SusanKearney - I'm going to write a bad boy for Shotgun Sally and set it in Texas. That's all I know so far.
O - What do you want to write next that you han't writtenn before
SusanKearney - Robin--exactly!!
Mary f - ROTFLMAO Robin!
RobinDOwens - Can you tell I just finished copy edits?
CassieMiles - I have this book about a Dragon. Yes, a real dragon. The woman who loves him (it?) and the man who kills him.
RobinDOwens - I think I now know LAY and LIE...for the moment.
Cissy - oh wow, Cassie!
O - that sounds good
RobinDOwens - I can't wait to read it....and I GET to!
SusanKearney - Well, I'm writing a book soon about an Olympic diver who needs protection. And a book about a criminal from the future who has traveled to the present. And a book about a magic perfume bottle that has special properties.
RobinDOwens - Like, next week.
KatyCooper - Oh, wow, Cassie, that sounds like a GREAT story.
Cissy - Robin, I used to teach my students "You lie down. You *get* laid."
MegaRead - Susan: Wow!
Mary f - Cassie is that book out or are you working on it
Cissy - hmm... wonder if that's why I'm not teaching anymore...
RobinDOwens - Love the perfume idea. You'll have to join us on paranormal romance chat night.
MegaRead - Especially the one about the future returning to the past.
KatyCooper - Robin ( )
O -
SusanKearney - Robin, It's a paranormal Blaze anthology with Julie Leto and Julie Kenner--out July 2004.
MegaRead - 2004!!!
RobinDOwens - Ah! Julie is an excellent writer.
CassieMiles - Love the magic bottle, Susan. I've been playing with the Dragon forever. I want somebody to buy before finishing.
Cissy - Mary has the next question (Robin, O in line)
SusanKearney - Cassie, Does the dragon have to die?
CassieMiles - Oh yes, the dragon is evil and eats people, especially virgins.
Mary f - What made you pick romances to write?
O - Cassie
SusanKearney - Money!! Opportunity!! But I also have written a Star Trek book. I love SF.
MegaRead - Poor me!
MegaRead - Or maybe not.
SusanKearney - And of course the SEX
CassieMiles - Writing romance fulfills my total need for happy endings.
SusanKearney - Seriously, I write what I like. I have to please me. And I love romance.
Cissy - and the Sex!
CassieMiles - Cool on the Trek book!
MegaRead - ?
SusanKearney - Cissy, Great minds think alike.
Cissy - Robin has the next question (O, MegaRead in line)
SusanKearney - Star Trek was likely a one time thing. Carrie has timed out.
RobinDOwens - My ? has been answered, O, you're up.
Mary f - Which trek series?
Cissy - O has the next question (MegaRead in line)
SusanKearney - Next Generation. The story was about Betazed being enslaved by the Dominion.
O - Do you both have websites and where do you live?
RobinDOwens - Hmmmmm.
SusanKearney - My web site is at the best place on the net. Writer space. And I live in Florida
Cissy - Susan
CassieMiles - I have no website. Can barely manage to answer e-mail. I live in beautiful downtown Denver, looking out high rise window at city skyline.
MegaRead - Ms Kearney: What SF have you written? I have read your Intrigues and enjoyed them. Would like to try the SF.
RobinDOwens - She lives across town from me, O.
SusanKearney - Cassie, I'm writing a book set in Colorado right now. Love those mountains.
RobinDOwens - They're getting snow tonight!
SusanKearney - Mega, Glad you like the Intrigues. My only SF is the Star trek book, but I'm sending out a few things so you never know...
O - so she is as crazy as you
CassieMiles - Totally great for settings. Though I've written so many (due to hometown advantage) that I can classify into winter snow and springtime in the rockies.
RobinDOwens - Pretty much, O.
MegaRead - Great! Will keep an eye out.
Cissy - Susan and Cassie - question I always ask - what's your favorite scene from your new book?
RobinDOwens - I like the nuns.
MegaRead - Which book is that?
O - have you a num fetish Robin
SusanKearney - The scene where my heroine dresses the Prince in clothes from Good Will. Or maybe the scene where the Prince ends up in jail.
