Cissy - Welcome everyone to the Harlequin Temptation authors chat! We're talking tonight with Cindi Myers and Jennifer Jennifer LaBrecque about their November releases. We're working on protocol, so if you have questions for Cindi or Jennifer, just type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
moosehog - Hi Tired
Tired Chick - Yes, I was thumbing through my old mail all confused.
jenlab - Tired Chick--I like/covet/relate to your name
O -
Tired Chick - LOL! Worked graves/just woke up.
Cissy - Before we go on to Q&A, can we get each of you to tell us about your latest book?
moosehog - That rots . I couldn't work that shift .
Cissy - Cindi, would you start us off and tell us about It's A Guy Thing! ?
CindiMyers - Who goes first?
Cissy - 3 questions, moose?
jenlab - Barely Decent is a best friends to lovers story. I was ACHING to write this.
Cissy - Cindi, would you start us off?
Cissy - oops, or Jen!
moosehog - yes
jenlab - Ooops. Sorry. I can't seem to type and read at same time. Didn't ;mean to jump in on Cindi
CindiMyers - Okay, IT'S A GUY THING! is my first Temptation -- and my first contemporary. When Cassie Carmichael sets up her night of seduction, her goal is to pump some lofe into a relationship gone dull. But instead, she finds herself practicing her sensual arts on the man she's fantasized about for years—Guy Walters. And not only is Guy a willing participant, he's asking for a whole lot more!
CindiMyers - Uh, that should be LIFE, not LOFE LOL
Cissy - Typos are a given in here, Cindi!
Cissy - welcome back, Amos
moosehog - we have typos perfected here .
Amos - sorry.....
jenlab - Cindi, it sounds great! Did you enjoy writing a contemporary?
CindiMyers - I LOVED it! I had no idea what I'd been missing.
Cissy - Hi CLC Welcome to the Harlequin Temptation authors chat! We're talking tonight with Cindi Myers and Jennifer Jennifer LaBrecque about their November releases. We're working on protocol, so if you have questions for Cindi or Jennifer, just type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Cissy - Jen, will you tell us about Barely Decent?
Tired Chick - And we're glad you started writing contemp, Cindi!!
jenlab - Are you working on another Temptation?
CindiMyers - I have another Temptation and 3 Blazes in the pipeline.
jenlab - Barely Decent is a friends-to-lovers story. Ryan and Phoebe go to the Islands for a hot vacation with their respective dates. When they find their dates bumping uglies, they decide to room together and things really heat up from there.
O - What did you write before Comt Cindi
Tired Chick - Bumping Uglies--LOL!!!!
Cissy - O, hang on - I'm about to start calling on you guys
moosehog - Stupid computer tried to give me the damn boot
O - Jen
moosehog - Stupid computer tried to give me the damn boot
jenlab - Excellent news on the Tempation and forthcoming Blazes
CindiMyers - Thanks! I'm excited.
Cissy - Okay! Ready for questions?
jenlab - Cindi, what were you writing prior to contemporary?
moosehog - Cindy , You used to write historical romances .What made you change your writing ? How big of a jump/difference was it for you to go to writing contemporary romances ? Do you plan on staying with Modern/contemp romances or will you go back to historicals.....or both ?
Cissy - O has the first question (moosehog, moosehog, moosehog in line)
moosehog - sorry . Didn't mean for it to go yet . was I up ?
Cissy - I'm feeling unnecessary here
O - I love Historical
Tired Chick - You're not unnecessary, Cissy!
CindiMyers - O, what was your question again?
O - What inpsired the Authors to write? Did they hear voices or moves in their head
jenlab - I'll confess that although I write contemporary and enjoy reading them, I ADORE historicals
O - Moose answered my question
Tired Chick - (Me, too, Jen--especially medievals!)
CindiMyers - I've just always loved to tell stories. I was never bored because I always made up people and situations.
jenlab - I've wanted to write a best friends to lovers for the longest time. I don't hear voices (thank god!--I'm nutty enough as it is) but the book does come in something akin to movie stills.
Cissy - moosehog has the next question (moosehog, moosehog in line)
Cissy - Hi Karin Welcome to the Harlequin Temptation authors chat! We're talking tonight with Cindi Myers and Jennifer LaBrecque about their November releases. We're working on protocol, so if you have questions for Cindi or Jennifer, just type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Amos - ?
moosehog - Cindy , You used to write historical romances .What made you change your writing ? How big of a jump/difference was it for you to go to writing contemporary romances ? Do you plan on staying with Modern/contemp romances or will you go back to historicals.....or both ?
Karin - Hello ladies, glad to be here.
jenlab - Hi, Karin.
Tired Chick - ACK--kicked off. Rassafrassa
Cissy - welcome back, TC
CindiMyers - I was writing western historicals as Cynthia Sterling and the market for those really went south. I met Brenda Chin at a chapter conference several years ago and she encouraged me to try a Temptation.
CindiMyers - I would love to write both historical and contemp, but for now at least I'm busy with contemporary.
O -
Caffey - Cindi
moosehog - Jen , what is it like to finally be published ? And how long did it take you to get signed ? How long from when you were signed did you have to wait for your first book to hit the stands ?
Caffey - Hi All
Cissy - Hi Caffey Welcome to the Harlequin Temptation authors chat! We're talking tonight with Cindi Myers and Jennifer LaBrecque about their November releases. We're working on protocol, so if you have questions for Cindi or Jennifer, just type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Cissy - moosehog has the next question (moosehog, Amos in line)
moosehog - Hi Cathie
CindiMyers - It wasn't as hard of a switch as I thought. In some ways contemp is easier -- less research.
jenlab - When I write, I tend to write toward a particualar scene. In Barely Decent I was writing toward the scene where they find their respective dates in bed together.
moosehog - Jen , what is it like to finally be published ? And how long did it take you to get signed ? How long from when you were signed did you have to wait for your first book to hit the stands ?
Tired Chick - Less research, Hear hear!
Caffey - hi moosehog!
jenlab - I'm working on my 6th book and I still get goofy when I walk in and see my books on the shelf. I wrote for about 2 1/2 years before I sold. It took about a year for my first book to hit the stands.
Cissy - moosehog has the next question (Amos in line)
jenlab - And I'm very fortunate to have Cindi's editor, Brenda Chin. She's great.
moosehog - Do either of you plan on targeting a different line in the near future and if so ....what line and why that line ?
CindiMyers - Actually, Jen, my editor is Wanda Ottewell. I love her!
moosehog - FYI everyone ...My computer sucks tonight .
jenlab - I'm tickled pink to be writing for Temptation. I don't see that changing any time soon. I get lots of leeway. Only occasionally does Brenda reign me back in. I like the length and I like writing sexy.
CindiMyers - I'm writing for Temptation and Blaze. I'd like to do single title someday, but two lines are keeping me busy for the moment.
Cissy - which is a good thing, jen, cause we like READING sexy
jenlab - Wanda is terrific. She line edited my Duets that was a RITA finalist and just won the Maggie award.
moosehog - O.K. everyone . I am done with questions for this group . You can all breathe easy now .
CindiMyers - Congratulations!
moosehog - for Maggie award
jenlab - Ah, Moose, say it ain't so.
Cissy - noooooooo, moose! We're counting on you
Caffey - ?
Tired Chick - Congrats on the awards, Jennifer!!
Amos - Moose asked my question, so you all can skip me. =)
Cissy - Amos has the next question (Caffey in line)
Karin - Cindi or Jen how many titles are you expected to porduce each year?
Cissy - oops, sorry Amos
Tired Chick - ?
Cissy - Caffey has the next question (moosehog in line)
jenlab - Thanks. I confess to being very excited.
Caffey - WHich books did you or plan to write for BLAZE? what was your favorite scene in this book?
O - Hey Cissy what about me
CindiMyers - Caffey, is that question for me?
Cissy - got you, O
Caffey - (meaning your new temptaiton book Cindi)
jenlab - I am the world's slowwwwweeeessstttt writer. 2-3 would be kicking you-know-what for me. My next book won't be out until December of next year.
Caffey - Yep Cindi...sorry my typing is not good i'm borrowing a computer so i could be in the chat tonight
Cissy - Karin, do you want me to put you in line with a question?
moosehog - Caffey honey you are doing just fine .
CindiMyers - My favorite scene is where Cassie decides to seduce Guy while they're playing Scrabble. I had so much fun with that. Read it and you'll never look at Scrabble the same way again!
moosehog -
Caffey - I'm sorry I thought Cindi was only here, but great Jen is here...jen your last name? i have to check if i got your book too?
moosehog - Pssst*** Cathie ...what is wrong with your computer ???
Karin - Yes, pleae, and sorry fo butting in earlier
CindiMyers - My first Blaze is out in April -- JUST 4 PLAY is Jill's story -- Cassie's best friend in IT'S A GUY THING!
Caffey - writerspace chat won't work on my computer! still!
O -
moosehog - Jennifer Lebreque (spelling?)
Caffey - oh i got Jen's Heat book! yep
Cissy - Jennifer LaBrecque
Caffey - (and its all Cissy/Sara fault I still can't use writerspace there on my computer)
jenlab - Hi Caffey. Jennifer LaBrecque. Barely Decent. The cover gods blessed me with a FANTASTIC cover this month.
Caffey - ?
moosehog - Most lines now have these continuity series going on . Do you have any plans to participate in any of these series ??? And what is your opinion on them ???And what do you think about the continuity series that jump the lines ???(Ie: 1 book a blaze , 1 book a duet , 1 book a desire . Ect)
moosehog - question is for both of the authors by the way .
Cissy - moosehog has the next question (Tired Chick, O, Karin, Caffey in line)
Cissy - moose, I'll never beat you to the punch
Caffey - Yes I have both of your BARELY books
Caffey - fabulous cover jen!
moosehog - I don't like to waste time . I wanted to be sure everyone had a chance to ask theirs before the next chat .
Tired Chick - UGH, if this thing kicks me off one more time....
jenlab - I would love to do a continuity. right now I'm committed to a 3-book contract. What do YOU think of the continuities that jump lines?
CindiMyers - I'll confess I've never read a continuity. Those are conceived by the editors and I think it would be tough to write another person's idea. But never say never. I guess I have a wait and see attititude. I think jumping lines is kind of neat though -- a way to introduce readers to new lines.
jenlab - Thanks, Caffey. I loved the cover. Almost made me nervous--like will the story stand up to such a great cover but I think it's okay.
moosehog - I actually think that they broaden the scope and force readers to read a line they normally might not read if they want to keep up with the story so I think they are pretty good .
moosehog - Hi Catherine
Cissy - Hi Catherine!
Cissy - Tired Chick has the next question (O, Karin, Caffey in line)
Caffey - i like what's inside the books Jen
Catherine Mann - Hi there!
Caffey - Hi Catherine
bnash - Hi Catherine
jenlab - Moose, do you like continuities?
moosehog - hey , is it military romance night and noone told me ????
jenlab - Well, actually, that question is open to all.
Caffey - moosehog likes em all!
moosehog - Jen I actually think that they broaden the scope and force readers to read a line they normally might not read if they want to keep up with the story so I think they are pretty good .. I read them all .
moosehog - @ Caffey who knows me sooooo well .
jenlab - Good deal.
Cissy - I like them, jen - but I prefer the ones with just a few books (3 or 4) rather than a really long series I can't keep up with
moosehog - ****Psst . Caffey , Catherine writes military romance books for Intimate Moments ...
Cissy - Tired Chick has the next question (O, Karin, Caffey in line)
jenlab - I hope when the time comes to write one it's a shorter one--I can see myself totally confused trying to keep up with 6 other books.
moosehog - WHITE OUT !! . I Hate it when that happens
Tired Chick - Jen and Cindi--how long does it take you to write a book, and what type of writer are you? Planner or off the cuff?
Caffey - same here cissy
moosehog - Jenn is a By the seat of her pants I bet .VBG
Tired Chick - Add to that, draft writer, or editing as you go?
CindiMyers - You don't really want to know the answer to this, do you? <EG>
jenlab - So off-the-cuff it's not funny. About three to four months if you don't count revisions.
Tired Chick - Gotta love those by-the-seaters. I'm the SAME way. <g>
jenlab - Ah, moose, you have so pegged me.
CindiMyers - I write fast -- 6 -8 weeks for a Temptation. I write a draft in a white heat, then revise. I do a lot of planning beforehand. Don't throw tomatoes!
Tired Chick - Why, of course I do, Cindi. <eg>
jenlab - I write a few scenes at a time. Usually straight dialogue and go back and layer in later.
Tired Chick - 6-8 weeks, we won't throw tomatoes for that. Two to three weeks is tomato-worthy.
jenlab - Oh, Tired Chick, it is a sad story if you count revisions. Throw in a month for revisions. Depends on how heavy they are.
Cissy - O has the next question (Karin, Caffey in line)
jenlab - I don't know, Cindi, I might have to lob a tomatoe or two your way. I hate you fast writers. No offense. Pure jealousy talking.
OL - Do the author have their own websites
Tired Chick - That's not sad, Jen. I think that's a reasonable amount of time.
jenlab - No, I don't have my own website. Haven't managed to get myself together enough for that.
Caffey - that was my question for jen ... about a web site
moosehog - Your all faster than me because I would never attempt writing . I couldn't bear to give up my reading to write ..
CindiMyers - No website for me either. I am lazy.
Tired Chick - Alert: Jen and I really WERE separated at birth. <g>
Caffey - cissy/sara... you do web sites right, hint hint
Cissy - oh yes, Caffey
jenlab - How important is author websites to you guys? (Am I throwing a spanner in the works by asking questions back?)
Tired Chick - That is a dilemma, moose, isn't it? <g> I do both. Keep a reading journal.
Caffey - cuz i wasn't sure if i was missing any of Jen's BARELY books
OL - I am shocked everybody has their own website
Cissy - Jen, you don't want me to answer the websites question, do you?
moosehog - I think web sites are really a great link /tool between readers feeling like they are connecting with their authors .
Caffey - VERY important Jen and Cindi. i like to see whats up next and get back lists etc
jenlab - Moose, I mourn the loss of reading time. Actually, in earlier stages of life contemplated a white-collar crime so I could read and someone else would prepare meals.
Tired Chick - I agree--I love author websites.
OL - I like it becuse you find out about the authors and their lives and books that they wrote
jenlab - The downside, Cissy, is that I would have to give you the info.
Tired Chick - They make authors more accessible as human beings, that's for sure.
Caffey - ...and if we know about your books ahead of time we can order them early and get you on the bestseller lists...so there!!!
moosehog - I can honestly say that I visit over 100 author sites at least once a month or more . At Least .
jenlab - Okay, I'm hearing you guys on author websites.
Cissy - lol, jen - but then we take it from there!
Cissy - Karin has the next question (Caffey in line)
jenlab - Cissy, we need to talk.
Cissy - call me, jen! Email me and I'll send you my number
moosehog - Contests , guestbooks , newsletter , coming attractions ...all of it goes into a great site .
jenlab - Okey dokey.
Karin - Okay, hopefully I won't get bumped again. My question is: what's the pressure like from your editors? what is expected of you?
moosehog - Jen , also ..... you can post reviews on your site for readers to get more interested in your books .
OL -
Tired Chick - Oooh, Karin wins best question of the night award. Have some chocolate. <g>
CindiMyers - No pressure. No one has ever said 'you have to do this much.'
Karin - Does a double mocha count?
Cissy -
moosehog - how about a cola
Tired Chick - Double mochas always count!
jenlab - I adore my editor. I don't get a lot of pressure. She understands that I'm a real person with lots of other things going on in my life (i.e., child, family business, greyhounds) She just wants to see me succeed. Or at least that's my naive view.
moosehog - Diet with lemon is the best
Cissy - Caffey has the next question (O in line)
Caffey - first question to Jen if i am missing any of the BARELY BOOKS (i have MISTAKEN AND DECENT...I think those are the titles) and what are your titles of all your books Cindi?
jenlab - Could you make it a Diet Coke? I live on those.
moosehog - Not to change the subject but I love Metsy's banner up there .
moosehog - That is what it is . Diet Coke with Lemon jen
Cissy - thanks, moose
romanticbkwrm - Not too late! Phew!
moosehog - Hi Romantic
CindiMyers - You want the historicals too, or just the contemps?
Tired Chick - I reside firmly in the Pepsi camp, but I will forgive you the Diet Coke, Jen, since you're the speaker.
jenlab - My first three books were ANDREW IN EXCESS, KIDS COPS=CHAOS (Harlequin title, not mine), & JINGLE BELL BRIDE?. My December 2003 Temptatio will be Barely Behaving.
romanticbkwrm -
OL - I want the Hidtoicals
Cissy - well, we're just finishing up the Temptation chat, romanticbkwrm, but the Desire chat is about to start
romanticbkwrm - Cindi, I am currently reading It's a Guy Thing and am loving it!
jenlab - Can't help it, TC. It's a Southern thang. I live in the Atlanta suburbs and Atlanta is, after all, home of Coca-Cola.
Tired Chick - Gotta fly, folks. Buffy is coming on. Jen, Cindi, thanks for the chat! ~~Lynda
romanticbkwrm - thks cissy
Cissy - ooh, it's a great one, TC - enjoy!
jenlab - get some rest Tired Chick
OL - Hey that was my question Jen
CindiMyers - OK -- historicals as Cynthia Sterling: PATCHWORK HEARTS, A WILLING SPIRIT, GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST, A HUSBAND BY LAW, NOBILITY RANCH, RUNAWAY RANCH, LAST CHANCE RANCH.
Tired Chick - I can understand that, Jen. But just for a great send-off, will you say Diet Pepsi rules?
moosehog - By tired
jenlab - Cissy, thanks for having us here. You guys are always a great groupl
Tired Chick - PATCHWORK HEARTS is the best book EVER!!!!
Caffey - awesome, thank you both
moosehog - Cissy ... are you actually missing Buffy tonight ??? Be still my heart .
jenlab - In a pinch--DIET PEPSI RULES!
Karin - Yes, thanks for being here ladies!
Cissy - oh, no no, moose - it's on and I'm taping
CindiMyers - As Cindi Myers: IT'S A GUY THING! (out now) JUST 4 PLAY (April 04) another Temptation in July, another Blaze in January -- no titles on those yet.
moosehog - Jen ...as long as it has Lemon in it .
Cissy - O has the last question (do you still have a question, O?)
OL - Where do you live Cindi
Karin - I'm with Jen on the DP!
romanticbkwrm - can't drink anything diet- just my preference though
Tired Chick - It's a Guy Thing! rocked, too!
CindiMyers - Thank you, Romanticbkwrm!
Tired Chick - Jen, love your titles! Okay, now I'm really going. Tschuss!
OL - Yes where does Cindi live? Jen do you have a accent?
jenlab - Nighty, night, Tired Chick
moosehog - Romantic ... You have to laugh at the ones that buy a ton of fattening food at a rest ....and order a Diet soda though .
CindiMyers - I'm in Colorado -- but I'm from Texas orig.
moosehog - Hi Marilyn
moosehog - Marilyn
CindiMyers - Thanks for stopping by everyone! This was a blast.
romanticbkwrm - Cindi before you go could you please tell me did you sell with your 1st story or was success a long time coming?
jenlab - My writing has an accent, but alas, I don't. Well, I don't think so. At least not compared to some of the folks I hear.
Caffey - Hi Marilyn
bnash - Hi Marilyn
Marilyn_P - howdy everyone
CindiMyers - I wrote 10 complete ms before I sold the 11th. Never give up!
romanticbkwrm - I hear that moose! LOL
jenlab - Moose, that'd be me, but that's cause I like the diet soda.
romanticbkwrm - Wow! Thanks!
jenlab - Okay, I'm going to shut up and give the floor over to Desire.
Karin - Good night and thanks againsJen and Cindi
Cissy - Well, ladies, we're just about out of time. Thanks so much Jen and Cindi for coming to chat with us!
jenlab - Thanks, again Cissy. It was nice to chat with and meet everyone tonight.
Cissy - Remind us one more time of your November titles, please?
CindiMyers - Goodnight all!
romanticbkwrm - And that's where my mindset is at right now.....if one isn't working try another. There's always room for improvement.
moosehog - Goodnight to whoever is leaving .
CindiMyers - IT'S A GUY THING!
Cissy - Everyone, please stay for the Silhouette Desire chat starting shortly!
Cissy - And Jen's is BARELY DECENT
