CHASING A ROGUE
Victoria Malvey

Sonnet Books
November 2002

Harriet Nash longs for marital bliss, and the dashing Steven Morris, Earl of Heath, seems the ideal candidate in every way. Following her theory that catching the perfect mate is like a fox hunt, Harriet sets out to snare a husband. But Steven proves a difficult catch, evading all her artful traps with ease. Undaunted, Harriet devises a new plan: to convince Steven that she'll help him catch a wife if he helps her find a suitable husband. With empty family coffers demanding that he marry a wealthy heiress, Steven must resist his growing desire for Harriet. When she approaches him with her plan, he eagerly agrees, hoping that time spent with Harriet will cure him of his fascination -- never suspecting that their secret scheming would soon turn into a very public passion....

Sara - CHASING A ROGUE by Victoria Malvey -- Harriet Nash longs for marital bliss, and the dashing Steven Morris, Earl of Heath, seems the ideal candidate in every way. Caffey - Hi there! i saw this book at the site. sounds like a great historical!!!
Caffey - Hi Moosehog
Sara - it there bad weather in New Jersey?
Sara - it is, Caffey
Caffey - Hi Sara
deagling - I hope that she comes... I scurried to finish "A Merry Chase" from the Halloween Bash before tonight.
Caffey - Is Victoria here?
Sara - I hope so too. Her first chat
Sara - not yet, Caffey
deagling - I found the icons!
Caffey - they are related books right deagling?
deagling - Yes, "A Merry Chase" is about Royce and Laurel.
moosehog - Morgan just got Honorable mention
OL - maybe she herard about us
Caffey - i'm back and forth there too
deagling - Harriet is Laurel's best friend, and Steven was in love with Laurel also. He helps her with her side of the schemes.
moosehog - Wedding OF The Year and A Merry Chase and A Proper Affair
Caffey - who's here historicals similar to? are these in london times?
moosehog - All are good books
Sara - they are regency, yes, Caffey
Sara - similar to? hmm
deagling - Setting was London, with one scene at a country houseparty.
Sara - she is lighter than Balogh who always is emotional reads for me
Caffey - yes balogh are emotional. i do enjoy regency's
moosehog - I have three of her books autographed . I bid at the baby auction and won and then she sent more .
moosehog - wonderful books
Caffey - thats nice of her
Caffey - well i was hoping she be here but i'll check her site about her books. she is new to me
Sara - even for all her faults Vicky is a very nice woman
moosehog - Yeah . it was great .
Sara - and her books are good, humours reads
moosehog - She is wonderful .
Sara - she tried to have me thrown off a boat you know
deagling - I enjoyed "A Merry Chase".
Caffey - how's that sara, lol
Sara - I think you will like CHASING A ROGUE too, Daegling
OL - ok where is she?
Victoria Malvey - Okay, so I'm an idiot!
Sara - I leave it to Vicky to tell you. She does it MUCH better, the wretch
moosehog - ..hello Vicky
Sara - right there!!
moosehog -
Victoria Malvey - Came down with bronchitis and am still under the weather
Sara - see, I call her names and she shows up!
Sara - sorry, Vicky
Victoria Malvey - I'm sooo sorry about being so late, guys!
Sara - we'll make it short then
Caffey - Hi Vicki!
deagling - I looked for it at my "local" Borders on Friday, but didn't find it.
Sara - I even told them about CHASING A ROGUE.
Victoria Malvey - Hey, Caffey. Thanks for coming ... even when I didn't!
Caffey - sara said you tried to have her thrown off a boat, lol
Victoria Malvey - Hey Delyn.
Sara - *snicker* said it was a really awful book
moosehog - Mac just tied with Morgan .
Sara - terrrible, just like the author
moosehog - Victoria ..... .
OL - Do you have the bad wheater Vicky
deagling - Hi Victoria
Caffey - I have never read you Victoria, but read a bit about your books and they raved here tonight about them!
Caffey - i do enjoy historicals
Victoria Malvey - She did indeed try to toss me overboard, but I'm too tough for a wimp like Sara.
Sara - said don't read it unless you like to read a good regency novel
Victoria Malvey - No, OL. The weather here is great.
Sara - I did NOT try to toss you, Vicky!!
Sara - it was the OTHER way around!
Victoria Malvey - Wait a second, SARA said something good?!?
deagling - ... but Sara... we wanted to hear more about Victoria having you thrown off of a boat.
OL -
Sara - ah, geez, now they are telling on me
Caffey - said your books were great and humorous reads too
Sara - uh, I said, I liked seeing Royce again
Victoria Malvey - I hosted a dinner during a conference with my pal, Tracy Fobes, and Sara came.
moosehog - @ Vicky thinking Sara said something good .
Sara - yeah, that's what I said, Royce is a cutie
Sara - I was invited to come. Sheesh, make it sound like I crashed the party or something!
Victoria Malvey - I thought he was rather yummy myself.
Victoria Malvey - And, yes, she was invited to come. I then proceeded to play a joke on poor Sara.
Sara - ah, he was, Vicky. You make them yummy!! (gotta hand it to you!)
Sara - poor sara!!
Victoria Malvey - I had the waiter inform her that she was being too loud and had to leave immediately. The look on Sara's face was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I laughed my ass off!
moosehog - Victoria ... not to do with the books (you know I love them) but are you planning on expanding your web site at some point in the near future ????
Victoria Malvey - Did you read Chasing a Rogue, Sara?
Sara - that you did, Vicky and it earned you a name, didn't it!
Sara - yes, I did, Vicky
Sara - I loved it too!
Willie - Hi, everyone
Sara - and I wouldn't just say that ya know
Caffey - lol vic
Victoria Malvey - I believe the wonders at Writerspace are working on the website at this very moment.
Caffey - Hi willie!
Victoria Malvey - Hey Willie.
Sara - hi, Willie, welcome to our chat with Victorica Malvey
moosehog - Hi Willie ..
Sara - okay, so, Vicky want to use your own words to tellus about CHASING A ROGUE?
moosehog - Great
Victoria Malvey - So, Sara, did you like the increased sensuality of the storyline?
Sara - uh, , but of course!! hot is always better
Victoria Malvey - Couldn't agree more.
Victoria Malvey - Chasing a Rogue is the sequel to A Merry Chase.
Sara - you gotta keep getting hotter?
Sara - good
Victoria Malvey - Soo many people wrote to me asking for Stephen's story, that I finally had to come up with one.
Caffey - but you can read in either order right
OL - Do you have read them in order?
Victoria Malvey - He has to marry an heiress and finds the whole business rather bothersome. Harriet, our heroine, naturally finds Stephen dashing and sets her sights upon him. Though he finds Harriet intriguing, without a fortune, he couldn't possibly offer for her. So, she decides to hunt him down ... well, like a dog.
moosehog - They hold their own without order right ?
Victoria Malvey - No, you don't have to read them in order.
Sara - I don't think so -- order isn't important -- each one stands well
Sara - I love your analogy, Vicky
Victoria Malvey - They're both based on the "Fox Hunt Theory" that Royce came up with in AMC - scent, the quarry, learn their habits, then chase them down.
Sara - /lol
Sara - yup. and it works well!
Victoria Malvey - Except in Chasing a Rogue, the heroine, Harriet, realizes that the reason the theory isn't working is because she'd applying it backward.
Sara - well, you ready for questions?
Victoria Malvey - If Royce was successful using the theory, then it only stands to reason that the lady would be the clever fox and the man, the dog.
Willie - I haven't had a chance to read any of your books yet, Victoria, are they all set in the same time period?
Victoria Malvey - Sure am, Sara ... fire away.
Sara - O has the first question (Moosehog in line)
Victoria Malvey - I'd ask you to be gentle, but then why waste my time ...
OL - What made you want to write did you hear voices/
Caffey - Me eithe Victoria, but I do enjoy historicals and looking to read yours
Victoria Malvey - Voices? LOL. Yeah, guess I did. All us writers are somewhat of a crazy bunch.
Sara - ah, geez, gentle?
Victoria Malvey - Seriously though, O, I loved to read and when I started staying home fulltime with my kids, I decided to try my hand at writing a romance. It took me 2 years to get published and here I sit, 8 books later.
Victoria Malvey - Willie, most of my books are set in Regency England, though one was Georgian and one Victorian.
Sara - Moosehog has the next question
moosehog - Victoria .Do you plan on revisiting these characters again or will it only be these two that are connected books ??And which of your male characters would you most like to be stranded on a Desert Island with ...FOR LIFE ?????And Why ????
Caffey - ????
Victoria Malvey - I don't think I'll revisit these characters again. I've had a great time with them, but am always ready to move onto new faces.
Victoria Malvey - As for the Desert Island, I'm always "in love" with my most recent hero. Stephen is arrogant, charming, and wicked ... so a WHOLE lotta fun on an island.
Sara - Caffey has the next question (moosehog in line)
Sara - lol, and VICKY knows FUN!!
Sara - can guarantee it!!
Victoria Malvey - If you have to be stranded on an island, the last thing you need is someone who's deadly dull, right?
Caffey - Victoria, Do you have a favorite scene from this book? and why did you pick that one?
Sara - uh, yes, but one who knows how to survive, I'm thinking would be much better than looks.
Sara - I am so materialistic ya know, I wanna live
Victoria Malvey - One of my favorite scenes from this book is in the beginning when Harriet meets Stephen again after a long while. She's somewhat of a wallflower and is embarrassed by her empty dancecard, so she's trying to hide it from him. He then proceeds to sweep her off her usually practical feet - both literally and figuratively. Really enjoyed writing that one.
Victoria Malvey - Come now, Sara, I'm quite certain you could survive. You're a tough one ...
Victoria Malvey - Hi D'Andrea. Thanks for joining us.
D'Andrea - Hello
Caffey - thanks Victoria
Sara - me? tough? I am but a little flower!! (okay, vicky, don't hit the floor too hard when you fall off your chair laughing! It isn't healthy)
Caffey - Hi D'Andra
moosehog - Victoria ....did you always want to write romance or where you ever interested in writing some other form ?? And do you have any plans to try writing something different in the future ? What kept you going in the beginning ? And who is your biggest inspiration?
Sara - hi, D'Andrea, welcome to our chat with Victoria Malvey, author of CHASING A ROGUE
Victoria Malvey - Ouch! That hurt ... my floor is too hard.
Victoria Malvey - Besides, Sara, wouldn't you rather be the one who lights the fire if he's able to keep yours stoked? I know I certainly would.
Sara - I forgot to warn you
Sara - ah, gee, I can't have both?
moosehog - @ anyone daring to iclude Simple and moosehog in the same sentence
Victoria Malvey - Okay, Moosehog. Gonna take these 1 at a time. I always wanted to write romance 'cause I'm a sucker for the happy ending.
Sara - yup, Vicky is a sucker for endings
Victoria Malvey - I'm currently writing a contemporary because I've had requests from my agent & a few publishing houses - more along the line of women's fiction.
Caffey - you always have great questions Moosehog
Victoria Malvey - As for what kept me going in the beginning, I set goals for myself. I decided that I would write 35 pages a week and I stuck to that goal. If I finished by Thursday, I'd have a long weekend. If not, I'd work Saturday night. It was tough, but it was what I wanted to do.
moosehog - Thanks Caffey
OL - No stick to historicals Victy
Caffey - sometimes i just freeze on questions then have a bunch of them later on!
Victoria Malvey - As for my greatest inspiration, I guess I'd have to ask in terms of what. I loved Julie Garwood, Lisa Kleypas, Jayne Ann Krentz, and other authors, but the story that keep me plugging along was actually a western writer's - Louis L'Amour.
Victoria Malvey - That guy couldn't sell for YEARS, but he hung in there and look at him now. Same with Mary Higgins Clark.
Victoria Malvey - Don't worry, O, I'll still do both. Instead of 2 historicals a year, I'd do one historical and one contemporary.
OL - What does he write?
moosehog - Which authors do you admire and if you could have any one of the many terrific authors out there write you in a romance book ....Who would you choose to write it ???And if you could travel back in time and meet any author who would you pick and why ???
moosehog - Wow . How the hell did that just happen ???
Sara - and moose has the next question too (or should I say questions?)
Victoria Malvey - Unfortunately, the historical market is flat at the moment - the publishing houses say they can't pump up the numbers fast enough.
moosehog - Westerns Oliveria
Sara - and she likes to repeat, I see!
Victoria Malvey - Jeez, Moosehog, quick typist, I see.
Caffey - lol Sara
Sara - isn't she, Vicky?
moosehog - Sara .. sort of like making love .. repeat repeat and repeat ...practice does make perfect don't you know .
Victoria Malvey - Moosehog is right, O. Louis L'Amour writes westerns; he's my dad's favorite author ... other than me, naturally.
Victoria Malvey - Amen, to that one moosehog!
Sara - ah, your dad is so good (and right!)
Sara - true, practice on anything makes perfect!
OL - I like Jodi Thomas weatern books
Victoria Malvey - I'd have to pick Julie Garwood. She's a good friend of mine and I love her stuff. I'd get a kick out of seeing myself in one of her books.
Caffey - my mom used to read them all the time
moosehog - Victoria
moosehog - My brother read Louis before my brother passed away .
deagling - ?
Sara - oh, god, you aren't EVER going to put me in one of your books are you? (*please say NO*)
Victoria Malvey - If I could travel back in time to meet any author, I'd have to pick Jane Austen. Love her stuff. She had a great way of looking at things - somewhat of a fascinated manner, yet droll at the same time.
Sara - go ahead, Deagling
Victoria Malvey - Oh, my darling, dearest Sara. I'm saving you for something ... extra special. (evil laugh)
deagling - Vicky, (flashback to "A Merry Chase" , what was your inspiration for the scene where all of Laurel's wardrobe was destroyed?
Sara - oh, my. god. I am going to be an escaped mental patient in 2003, that is bad enough
Caffey - rofl sara
deagling - Hhmmmm... wasn't supposed to be a smiley face... was supposed to be the close paren.
Victoria Malvey - Not nearly bad enough, Sara.
moosehog - Oh Sara . That is great ... someone is doing a Biography on you and your escape from the mental hospital .
Sara - uh, thanks, Diana
moosehog - //evil
Victoria Malvey - Delyn, I wanted to have an extremely personal assault on Laurel - but not on her physically - so I chose something I ADORE - clothes! I would be horrified if my clothes were destroyed.
moosehog - //butt
moosehog - t
moosehog -
Victoria Malvey - Not only would I lose all my great clothes, but I'd have to face those AWEFUL 3 way mirrors in the clothing stores again. Ugh.
Willie - Have to sign off now, good night everyone
Sara - uh, that is a nightmare
Sara - night, Willie
moosehog - Victoria .... My daughter (10 year old Daughter Autumn) would have to be commited if that happened to her .
Caffey - bye willie
Victoria Malvey - Bye Willie. Thanks for coming.
Sara - Vicky, do you want to stay a bit longer? I have another 15 minutes before dh gets nasty
Victoria Malvey - Amazingly enough, so would my boys (10 & 13).
Sara - it is his birthday
Sara - poor baby is a scorpio and they get moody
deagling - That and the burning ledgers were certainly a good way to convey that.
Victoria Malvey - Since I was late (sorry again!), I can hang for a bit more.
Victoria Malvey - It's your DH's B-day and you're HERE?!? Have reading romances taught you nothing, Sara?!?
Sara - I told him I HAD to come chat with that Malvey WOMAN
Sara - he remembers my stories about you
Victoria Malvey - I'm a scorpio as well. 11/19.
Caffey - lol Victoira!!
Sara - I actually think he admires your courage (or foolhardiness -- never quite sure with him)
Victoria Malvey - As is my husband & youngest son. Volitile group here.
Sara - ah, dear! Really!
Sara - oh, WOW
Victoria Malvey - I MUST meet the man brave enough to have stuck it out with you, my dear Miss Sara.
Sara - I couldn't handle more than one
Sara - 28 years, Vicky. It is amazing
OL - Are you doing a book signing tour and coming to Rhode island
Victoria Malvey - Next time you come East, let me know and I'll meet you in VA ... especially now that the coast is clear.
Caffey - lol,
deagling - By the way, I enjoyed "A Merry Chase". I looked for "Chasing A Rogue" at my "local" Borders, but they didn't have it yet.
Caffey - i had a lot of good laughs. Sara said your books are humorous too, love your humor here Victoria I look forward to reading your books!
Sara - LOL -- right!
Caffey - come to WNY!
Sara - I have an excerpt up of CHASING A ROGUE
Sara - go check it out at http://www.victoriamalvey.net
Victoria Malvey - Though I'd love to visit RI for a booksigning, I stay closer to home because of the age of my kids. They'll be gone before I know it, so I put this motherhood gig first.
Sara - it is a great introduction to Vicky!
Victoria Malvey - Delyn, they didn't have it?!? Kick! Scream! Tell them to get the book in. LOL.
deagling - Read that... I hate excerpts... I want the whole book... it must be that instant gratification thing again.
Victoria Malvey - Thanks so much, Caffey. You'll certainly 'hear' a lot of my, um, particular sense of humor in my books.
Sara - yeah, instant is good, but teasing can be exciting too
moose - I got the BOOT !!!!!
Victoria Malvey - Not from me, Moose. Maybe it was that evil Sara...
deagling - I know Vicky, and the store is an hour and a half away... so I only get there about once a month.
Sara - now now, would I do that?
Caffey - what do you mean "hear" ?
Victoria Malvey - Yup.
moose - Victoria . Thanks for the package . I got it this week . It was great . I appreciate it . I loved bidding on your stuff (and winning) at the baby auction this summer too .
moose - I know it was the evil sara . she don't like me I know it .
Victoria Malvey - If you ever meet me, you can hear my 'voice' in the books quite clearly.
Sara - I didn't do it, swear!!
moose - Sara makes me ....And I am an
Sara - yes, Caffey, she sounds like her books -- definitely
Sara - and it is a GOOD thing!
Victoria Malvey - Thanks for bidding at the auction, Diana. It was for a great cause.
Caffey - I do look forward to meeting you, but i'll have a interpreter tho to hear for me! but smile, i will read it and know its you after meeting you
moose - It was a great cause .
Caffey - never heard of those auctions
Victoria Malvey - The closest bookstore is an hour and a half away? I don't think I could stand that, Delyn.
moose - Caffey . it was a one time thing to raise money to help a pregnant lady who lived in Australia .
Sara - that does sound scary, doesn't it?
Victoria Malvey - I consider this chat a 'meeting', don't you, Caffey? I've enjoyed getting to know you ladies.
Sara - Gwen has it like that in Virginia. She is making a schedule for when she comes home. It is ruthless in precision.
Caffey - it sure is Victoria!
deagling - Before Borders came in Amazon.com was one of my bestest penpals. It sure was different than when I lived in the city and drove past 3 different bookstores on my way home.
Caffey - got to run now, thanks so much!!!!!!!!! loved it here tonight, bye now
Sara - Vicky, let me say, thank you so much for coming tonight
moose - Bye Cathie
Victoria Malvey - Bye, Caffey. Thanks again for coming!
